Burned cable under diode 2 at underhood fuse box

I change the battery to an optima batteries and made a shot circuit because there was a metal that touched both terminals while the battery cable was attach to the battery. Fuses from underhood and interior of the car are in perfect conditions, car doesn't starts, when key is turn to start, in the dashboard at the milage display is appears alot of dashes. (---- ----) Before the battery change the car started and ran great. please help.

Not sure this is the solution..but the same thing happened to me several times over a few month span. After many attempts to fix a number of items (alternator, etc.), I was told that there was a problem with the radio, and that it had to be "factory reset." My local dealer got some kind of code from Ford and fixed the problem. I haven't had a problem for over a year.

Definately sounds like an ignition problem. Try changing the ignition control module on the driver's side fender well.

no starter relay is always at the fuse relay box at the engine compartment. The relay that you hear is the relay for the accessories to turn off the power during starting position.

The easiest way to check for a draw at the battery is to unhook the negative battery cable and hook a 12v test light in between the negative post and the negative cable. The light should light brightly if there is a significant draw. You simply unhook circuits till the light goes dim, or out. I always start at the alternator, even if it has tested good. An alternator can still charge with a burned out diode which will cause a direct short to ground and drain a battery like nobody's business.

For many modern computerized cars, there a reset after battery installation. Google for the trick for your particular model and year. Usually mode is to have headlights off, remove battery and wait five minutes before installing the new battery. If the wait is not done, one of the CANs may burn out. On my car, the windows and sun roof need to be opened and closed in a certain sequence. Check to see if the battery is fully charged, starter relay and, any melted insulation on any wires, fusible link okay? Otherwise it sounds like a profession service may be needed, esp. if it's a CAN problem. Test the 2 diodes to see if they are good. If not replace.

The wiring diagram is showing two 60amp maxi fuses coming from the battery post in or under the fuse box. The box is called the underhood accessory wiring junction block so it may only hold 2 or 3 fuses.
The two maxi-fuses power most of whats in the main fuse box.

What happens if you hook jumper cables to the underhood fuse box power leads unstead of the battery?


You could damage the 125A Mega fuse. When using jumper cables, always connect the positive cable directly to the battery and the negative cable to a large unpainted metal surface in the engine compartment.

Use a jumper cable to jump power from the positive terminal of the battery to the AUX terminal in the underhood fuse and relay center box. This will bypass the cable that feeds power to the fuse box from the pos battery terminal. If you have power after that, you probably have a bad cable. Also, check the main 30 amp power fuses in the fuse and relay center under the hood.

Significant battery draw on my 2007 Honda Odyssey until I remove the fuse labeled "Back Up, ACC". 40A square type fuse. what circuit does this fuse protect?


Fuse #15 "BACK UP/ACC" (40 Amp) in the Underhood Fuse/Relay Box
protects the circuits leading to Fuse #7 "BACKUP" (7.5 Amp) in the Underhood
Fuse/Relay Box and also fuses (#5 "RADIO" (10 Amp), #6 "INTR LIGHT" (7.5 Amp),
#7 "BACK UP" (7.5 Amp), #8 "not used", and #9 "FR ACC SOCKET (10 Amp)
in the Driver's Fuse/Relay Box.
To further narrow down the source of your draw, pull each of these fuses one at a time.
No, that was not a "typo" There are 2 fuses marked "BACK UP" and are both 7.5 Amp and one is
in the Underhood Fuse/Relay Box and the other is in the Driver's Fuse/Relay Box. (I checked this 3 times just to make sure.)

There are 2 diodes in the underhood fuse box (diodes look like black fuses) one of those diodes is blown, there is a spare diode in the interior fuse panel. Remove that spare and swap it with both of the ones under the hood.

My battery was connected wrong and the radio shut off


Have a technician check out the battery, cables, alternator,wires behind alternator and the harness they lead to. Further more, have the technician check the entire radio and a/c circuit for shorts and opens.

How do i change the positive battery cable on a 2002 kia optima lx?I was able to unscrew the end that goes to the fuse box directly behind the battery but how should i rig the end that goes on the battery...


Before disconnecting the positive cable you must disconnect the ground cable first to avoid short circuit that may blow up some of the fuses.

To remove the positive cable you must have a wrench that has a size either a 12 mm or a 10 mm. just turn the wrench counter clockwise.

The other end of the cable will usually go to the starter and the alternator.
