I need to find the transmission dipstick in a 2011 Kia Sportage

The transmission dipstick will be closer to the firlewall on most vehicles It may have a handle with a picture of a transmission on it. You'll need to find the transmission drain plug if there is one. Some models you need to drop the transmission pan some you have to drop the oil pan before you can drop the transmission pan. Many you have to remove brackets and or exhaust parts before you can remove the other pans. See Tutorial

How do you check the transmisison fluid

Instructions

Locate the dipstick for your transmission. It is usually near the back of the engine, and the stick handle is either a T-handle or a ring handle.

Grasp the dipstick handle and pull straight up until the end of the stick clears the housing tube. Wipe the stick off with a rag, and push it all the back down into the tube.

Pull the stick all the way out again and hold it so you can see the end of the stick and the film of fluid that clings to it.

Look for the level indicators stamped or drilled into the dipstick. You should see two sets of indicators. One set is for checking the fluid when the engine is cold, and the other set is for checking the fluid when the engine is hot. Each set of indicators is marked with a "full" line and an "add" line.

Determine whether your transmission fluid is at the proper level by finding the spot on the dipstick where the film of fluid ends. If the film ends near the "full" mark or somewhere near the halfway point between "full" and "add," your transmission has an adequate fluid level.

Return the dipstick to the holding tube and push it all the way back down into the tube. Fully seat the dipstick in the holding tube

Transmission fluid leak ,most on top of tranny

This is how to service your transmission. Ensure to follow these steps to check the existing level to see in fact how much fluid your losing and if your at risk of a blown tranny with little to no fluid
  • Drive the car for several miles or until the engine has reached its normal temperature, as indicated by the temperature gauge. Position the vehicle on a flat surface, shift the transmission to the "Park" position and apply the parking brake.Raise the hood and allow the vehicle to idle.

  • Withdraw the transmission's dipstick. The dipstick features a T-shaped handle with the words "Trans. Fluid" stamped into the top of the handle.Wipe the dipstick clean of any transmission fluid with a clean shop rag. As the vehicle is driven, transmission fluid may splash onto the dipstick, resulting in a false fluid level reading.Insert the dipstick into its tube until the handle rests securely against the top of the tube, then withdraw the dipstick and note the fluid level. The fluid level should be at or just below the "Warm Full" mark stamped into the dipstick. If the level is low, fluid must be added.Add Mercon V transmission fluid in small increments to avoid overfilling the transmission. Insert a funnel into the top of the dipstick tube, then pour the transmission fluid into the funnel, periodically checking the fluid level on the dipstick.

Checking the transmission fluid level...how to

If it's an automatic transmission, then it's best to check when the transmission is fully warmed up to operating temp. then while the engine is idling in PARK, pull the dipstick out and wipe off. Re-insert and pull out again. read the level as where ever the fluid stops making the dipstick wet. The transmission dipstick should be on the same side as the engine oil dipstick but further back. Some makes have "engine oil" and "trans" stamped on the dipstick handle.

IS THERE A TRANSMISSION FLUID DIPSTICK FOR 1988 JEEP CHEROKEE 4X4? i CANNOT FIND IT ANYWHERE... ARGGG

does it have an automatic or manual transmission? If it's a manual transmission there is no dipstick. If It's a automatic transmission the dipstick should be located near the firewall of the vehicle where the transmission bolts up to the engine block and usually has a red handle to designate it as the transmission dipstick.

I am not sure on Land Rovers but to check automatic transmission fluid the car needs to be running, warmed up, and on level ground. Search the rear sides of the engine bay for a dipstick that usually has an orange or red handle on it. Once you find it the fluid should be red, if it is you have the right dipstick. Yellow handles are usually oil dipsticks so be careful. Your user manual in the glove box should have pictures of where its located.

    Oil dipstick tube

On my girlfriend's 93 (same generation), it's right in front, between the two middle exhaust manifold runners. You should see a hole in the heat shield, and the dipstick handle is right there. If the dipstick is missing, look through that hole with a flashlight and you'll see the tube there.
