Question about Pontiac Cars & Trucks
2007 Pontiac Torrent; Stereo drains the battery. With the vehicle off and stereo off the (new) battery goes dead overnight. I removed the fuse (#17 in the center console) and replaced it with an ammeter. It draws almost an Amp of current. Disconnect the stereo and no current draw. Bought a used stereo and same problem (just over an amp of current). Does power from the stereo power then power anything else? This is a base model no rear entertainment system. I am an electronics tech, but not on cars, and I'm stumped with out a wiring diagram. Any help would be great. Thanks in advance.
This is the radio diagram for fuse 17

Testimonial: "Thanks but the image is too blurred to read the writing."
This is an interesting problem. I'm also an electronics technician and my specialty is NOT cars either. But the only thing I can see is that somehow, someone tapped into the feed to the radio or its grounding system and installed a n accessory in line with your radio. That device has to be between the source and the radio to give the symptoms you described. It's as if the radio, when plugged in, completes the feed path of this device. Not much help but give me feedback, I'm interested in your findings. Good luck.

Probably wired to the wrong power wire. You need to go to the key on side of the wire instead of before it.

U will need the factory diagrams for this detailed info which we don't have here, this is a link to buy the Ford OEM wiring diagram booklet (used) that has every diagram u need at a very reasonable price.

I have done this before, put about a 10 amp charger on the battery. Pull the courtesy light fuse first. Look at the battery charger, it is probably charging several amps, pull one fuse at a time. When the charging amps drops down you found the fuse the controls the problem. I had a car several years ago that someone pulled the seat belt all the way out, somehow it was pulling a load and draining the battery overnight.
