Messages on screen: ENG PWR REDUCED SERVICE ESC SERVICE TRACTION Warning lights on: Traction Control Check Engine Light

Happens when speed control is on with sustained speed between 70 and 75 for more than 20 minutes. Has not happened when driving at higher speeds with out speed control or when speeds are changing with the traffic flow. Has happened 5 times total, 3 times in the last 2 weeks. Always happens on freeway and at freeway speeds. The first time it happened, I shut off the engine and consulted owners manual and it suggested removing and replacing the gas cap. The messages cleared when engine was started and there was full engine power. Another time, I just shut off the engine and started it again. Messages did not clear until I shut off the engine again and removed the gas cap. Each time since when it happens, I shut off engine and remove gas cap. Solution seems totally unrelated to the problem! Check engine light will usually reset after about 6 or 8 hours.

What causes the "Reduced Engine Power", "Service Stability Control" and "Traction Control" warning lights to come on?

the "Reduced Engine Power", problem causes the PCM to disable "Service Stability Control" and "Traction Control" turning on the warning lights to come on for those systems . The reduced engine power is because of a problem with the electronic throttle control system or as GM calls it TAC system . Reduced Engine Power Mode
When the PCM detects a condition with the TAC system, the PCM may enter a reduced engine power mode. Reduced engine power may cause one or more of the following conditions:
• Acceleration limiting--The PCM will continue to use the accelerator pedal for throttle control, however, the vehicle acceleration is limited.
• Limited throttle mode--The PCM will continue to use the accelerator pedal for throttle control, however, the maximum throttle opening is limited.
• Throttle default mode--The PCM will turn OFF the throttle actuator motor and the throttle will return to the spring loaded default position.
• Forced idle mode--The PCM will perform the following actions:
- Limit engine speed to idle by positioning the TP, or by controlling the fuel and spark if the throttle is turned OFF.
- Ignore the accelerator pedal input.
• Engine shutdown mode--The PCM will disable fuel and de-energize the throttle actuator.

Pretty much tells you the system with the fault

Traction Control is embedded into the abs braking
system, so diagnose that using the codes you have,
same as any other obd codes you get

The Reduced Power could be another problem & it
cuts off fuel injectors to save the exhaust converter
from overheating & being ruined

Reduced power is a problem with electronic throttle contol . drive by wire . Do you know what this is ? Taking the vehicle an having it hooked up to diagnostic tool an checking for DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes is always a first step when trying to find the root cause of any trouble light ! And not auto zone , pep boys , or advance auto parts . Thier diagnostic tool will not check codes in all system control modules .

Chevy HHR 2008 LT 2.4. Message ESC OFF, SERVICE TRACTION, and ENG PWR REDUCED. What to do? Can I drive car whit this problem.

Hello and welcome. the engine reduce power waraning is the key to the other problems. this is normally a problem with the electronic throttle system. the engine control module disables the traction control system when it detects a engine problem, in your case a problem with the electronic throttle system. you shouldnt drive with this concern. this is normally covered under the vehicles 100,000 mile warranty. you need to conteact your nearest dealer for help

The torque converter clutch circuit may be at fault. The best way to determine the problem is to have a scanner/computer to read check engine codes.

How to Turn off Service Traction Control and ESC messages

I had this problem with my 2007 HHR. I drove away with the service engine and the service traction light on. The car was stuttering through the gears. I took it back and they checked it. They disconnect some wires while they change the oil and one was loose. The service engine turned off but the service traction stayed on. We disconnected the battery for 3 minutes and it fixed the problem. Some of those other guys spent up to 300 dollars to fix the problem. Hope it works out for you.
