Question about Isuzu Trooper

2000 Isuzu Trooper cannot find engine temp gage sensor

Most books show it on the thermostat cover on left side. On this 2000 there is not even a place to put it there. Engine was changed but even with that no wire as shown on schematic is located there. Apparently there is another location but I and 3 other mechs cannot find it. One of them a longtime Isuzu specialist is completely baffled. Gage is inop and cannot find the wire or a sensor.

Thanks but that is the sensor for the computer. The gage has a separate sensor with a single wire going to it. It shows in diagrams that is opposite side of this one. with a yellow and black wire that goes straight to the gauge. That is the one I cannot find.

I can't find repair procedures for the engine temperature sensor for the computer, But it does say it takes about 1.8 hours to replace the one for the computer.

SOURCE: no signal to temp. gage./// where is temp. sending unit located?

After you've drriven the vehicle for a while, stop, turn off the ignition and open the hood. Do you hear water boiling in the radiator or is the coolant recovery bottle overflowing[you'll see plenty of steam this time of year]. If you don't see any signs of overheating then it's not a problem.

SOURCE: My Caravan radiator fans run constantly.

The temperature sensor may be controlling the fan via a relay; these can fail by welding the contacts together remaining permanently 'on.'
Locate the fuse (and possibly relay) box, check inside the cover for a layout that identifies which fuse or relay controls the fan; they are often on their own fuse and definitely on their own relay.

My temperatur gauge shows hot when i turn on the ignition and two fans turns on right away can you tell me whats the prablem is?

Well it can be one of too things the gage or the temp sensor.
its most likely the sensor. The temp sensor is normally mounted with the thermostat housing which is on the top of the engine and has the top radiator hose going to it if you can't see it, try taking off the plastic covers. With the ignition on so all gages are reading go and unplug the sensor the gage should drop back strata way, this tells you that you have the wright sensor there are sometimes 2 one for the gage and the other for cold starting. There is a possibility that the problem may be coursed by a squashed or rubbed throw wire so if you can't make the gage return to cold by disconnecting the wires then start following the wires back along the engine.
I think you will find a faulty sensor is the cores of your problems and should be easy to pick up at any car part place.

ECT SENSOR LOCATION- On a 1996 Trooper- 3.2 fuel injected engine. I have spent hours trying to find this ECT sensor. The manual states that it is located in the intake manifold or near the thermostat. ...

The 6VE1 engines coolant temp sensor is in the cross over housing on right hand front section of head just under throttle body (ECU). From memory the 6VD1 (older) engine is in similar position. There are 2 sensors one for engine ECU & one for Temp gauge the single wire one is for temp gauge which is in same cross over housing but left side.

Want to know whats these codes mean [Engine rpn 704 rpm],[Map sensor 45 kpr], [cool ant temp 141f], [Dtc t caused rreezerrame p1281]. for a 2000 grand cherokee

Hi, the first part is data taken along with the code. The code P1281 indicates the engine is running cold (141 degrees--should be at least 190). Is your temp gage running lower than you are used to? If yes, it may be your thermostat has failed open. I have pasted below instructions for replacing the thermostat. Please let me know if you have any questions, and thanks for using FixYa.

3.7L & 4.7L Engines WARNING Do not loosen radiator drain **** with system hot and pressurized. Serious burns from coolant can occur.

NOTE Do not waste reusable coolant. If solution is clean, drain coolant into a clean container for reuse. If thermostat is being replaced, be sure that replacement is specified thermostat for vehicle model and engine type.

  1. Disconnect negative battery cable at battery.
  2. Drain cooling system.
  3. Raise vehicle on hoist.
  4. Remove splash shield.
  5. Remove lower radiator hose clamp and lower radiator hose at thermostat housing.
  6. Remove thermostat housing mounting bolts, thermostat housing and thermostat.

To install:
  1. Clean mating areas of timing chain cover and thermostat housing.
  2. Install thermostat (spring side down) into recessed machined groove on timing chain cover.
  3. Position thermostat housing on timing chain cover.
  4. Install two housing-to-timing chain cover bolts. Tighten bolts to 115 inch lbs. (13 Nm).
CAUTION Housing must be tightened evenly and thermostat must be centered into recessed groove in timing chain cover. If not, it may result in a cracked housing, damaged timing chain cover threads or coolant leaks.
  5. Install lower radiator hose on thermostat housing.
  6. Install splash shield.
  7. Lower vehicle.
  8. Fill cooling system.
  9. Connect negative battery cable to battery.
  10. Start and warm the engine. Check for leaks.

Removal & Installation, 4.0 liter engine

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. If necessary, disconnect the coolant temperature sensor electrical connector.
  3. Disconnect the upper radiator hose from the thermostat housing.
  4. Remove the attaching bolts and lift the housing from the engine.
jturcotte_407.jpg
Remove the thermostat and gasket.
To install:
  1. Clean all gasket surfaces thoroughly.
  2. Place the thermostat in the housing with the spring inside the engine.
  3. Install a new gasket with a small amount of sealing compound applied to both sides.
  4. Install the water outlet and tighten the mounting bolts to 200 inch lbs. (23 Nm) on V-8 engines and 15 ft. lbs. (20 Nm) on non-8 cylinder engines.
  5. Install the upper radiator hose to the housing and tighten the hose clamp.
  6. Connect the coolant temperature sensor connector to the housing.
  7. Refill the cooling system.

1991 isuzu trooper 4 cyl. runs terrible when cold.does it have a cold sensor & where is it on the engine?

If you have a 2.6 4ZE1 engine the coolant temp. sensor is located under the intake manifold at the runner for #1 cylinder. It maybe hard to access. Try going throught the right side wheel opening over the tire it is a tight fit.

Where is the thermostat on a 2000 trooper

Please post what engine you have! There are a couple different motors offered.
You should be able to follow the upper radiator hose to the t-stat housing on either the 4cyl or gm V6, I 'm not sure if there is another engine option for that year. I was previously a Isuzu tech 10 years ago, but am not up to date on newer models.
