Remove the wheel and take off your brake caliper. Once you have the wheel off, you will see a dust cap in the center of the wheel. Remove the dust cap by using a pair of channel locks, don't use something to pry it loose as this will cause it to leak grease later. Once you have the dust cap off you will see inside a castle nut held in place with a cotter pin. Remove the pin and unscrew the nut. This will allow the rotor and bearing to come out. Replace the bearing with the new one using a high temp grease to grease them.... IMPORTANT: when you grease the new bearings make sure to grease them thoroughly. Put a glob of grease in the palm of your hand and slowly dab the sides of the new bearings in the grease (this will allow the bearings to be greased on the inside).... Put back together as you found it. NOTE: When tightening the castle nut, tighten it down tight and then release it a quarter turn back before before inserting the pin to hold it back in place. Good luck! Let me know how it goes.  PS If when you have the rotor off, you have trouble getting the inside bearing off try this very simple and useful trick: Put the rotor back on the spindle and thread the castle nut on a couple of times. Next **** the rotor across the nut. This will cause the bearing to hang up on the castle nut and simply pop out.

SOURCE: replace front wheel bearings 99 ford explorer

not press fitted, standard tapered bearings, if 4X4 it is a little more involved, just dont misplace any of the smaller parts and you will be fine.

SOURCE: ford festiva front wheel bearing worn out

I do have the manual and there are several on eBay all the time for Festivas, because I check there often for Festiva parts. They are often sold for about $20-$25 for the complete manual. You might want to try that. I have the manuals for Festiva, but I don't have a scanner, but I do have a digital camera that I could use to photograph it. I don't know if I can get your email address so that I can send the photos of the pages to you. Let me know.

I replaced driver side front wheel bearings, but starting to hear squeaks. Is this a lack of packing grease?

Dan, squeaking could be from improperly packed bearing or hub nut not tightened properly. Did you replace the races also.

99 ford ranger when turning have a vibration in steering wheel rebuilt front end and still does it brand new tires so it anit that drives fine just when turning has a vibration

Eliminating steering linkages and tires as a possibility, the only things remaining to check are WHEEL BEARINGS (likely culprit on Ford trucks), brake rotors (cheap just to buy new ones and replace while servicing or replacing the wheel bearings), and loose or worn shock absorbers.

I have a 98 Ford Ranger and need to replace the rotors on front. It is a 4 X 4 and has that stanger cap on it instead of just a dustcap.

You will have to take the auto locking hub cap off and then remove the axle nut, and the wheel bearing to get the wheel assembly off, then you will take the bolts out of the wheel assembly that are used to hold it to the rotor.

Rubbing/grinding noise

Usually the strut bearing will make this noise upon turning a corner and hitting a rut or pot hole when turning. A wheel bearing will make a low pitched whinning sound constantly
