Question about Chevrolet Cobalt
I recently had the battery changed in my 05 Cobalt. After the change there has been a ticking from behind the dash, it almost sounds like a turn signal. It only happens when the brake has been depressed and will continue to click/tick for a few seconds after the pedal has been released. It doesn't matter whether the car is in park or in motion, as soon as the brake pedal is touched the ticking starts.
Try resetting the system-reboot- disconnect the battery leave it un hook for 2 hrs then hook back up-ticking noise is probably a relay that is dealing with a voltage issue-other than that a trip to the dealer might be a good idea- cheers Denny

You poor thing ,dont you you realise its one of them american thingys where the brake light is also the indicator ,totally illegal here in europe where it has to be a amber indicator light anyway the fault lies for sure in the fancy stop light switch ,my best advice would be to buy rear europeon rear lights and have them fitted and that monstosity of a stop light switch with all the relevant horrors of the wiring discarded in favour of a simplier system

SOURCE: ticking noise
It is part of the waste gate just above the gas tank. It periodically checks for leaks and pressurizes and releases. Gives a ticking noise when it does this. Not a problem and GM is aware of this and said its normal on our cars.

SOURCE: Ticking on '05 Chevy Equinox
THE TICKING NOISE IS VALVE LIFTERS.MOST OF THE TIME WHEN ENGINE OIL GETS DIRTY NEEDS OIL CHANGE.DIRT GETS IN LIFTERS THEN CAUSES THEM TO BE NOISEY.IF LIFTERS STAY NOISEY ALL THE TIME.THEY OR WORN AND NEED REPLACING.ITS NORMAL FOR CAR TO SMOKE A LITTLE WHITE SMOKE IN MORNING ON START UP.LONG AS IT DONT KEEP SMOKING IF SO.YOU HAVE HEAD GASKET LEAKING.
