Question about 2002 Hyundai XG350

Open Question

Engine shuts off when brake pedal is pressed.

The engine either shuts off or runs very low rpm with a chugging sound when the brake pedal is pressed. I found out recently that if I hold in the button on the brake light switch when the brake pedal is pressed in the engine isn't affected. I changed the switch to see if it was specifically the problem but it didn't fix it.

92 ACCORD what causes the gauges to quit working when the brake pedal is depressed, another problem is turning on the headlights and the engine dies any answer's ?

Hi Christopher:
I'd be checking to make sure that the grounds are nice and clean and working properly. When you step on the brake pedal you are activating a switch that sends power to the brake lights. The brake lights share bulbs with the signals and emergency flashers, so it is also possible that a dead short in any of those components could "steal" the power from the ignition.
At this point, it's a trouble shoot game for you to figure out what is working, and what is not.
That's part of the fun. Enjoy.

When i come to a stop the car wants to die unless u keep ur foot on the gas

Hi Wendi:
If the engine runs fine except when you don't have your foot on the gas, maybe the idle stop needs to be adjusted. With the engine off, have someone step on the gas pedal while you look at the linkage at the carb. There should be a plate with a screw in it that keeps the butterfly valve from closing completely. This can be adjusted with the engine running. (SAFETY FIRST - MOVING PARTS CAN BITE)
If the engine will only run at not nice too high RPM, chances are that the idle jet in the carb is plugged, and a carb cleaning and possibly overhaul may be needed.

Car chugging

which car? name it and year, all cars vary by year, make and model
and by country, in fact, vastly so.
does it do this hot and cold (engine temp)
does the engine reach and hold at 180 to 200F temperature>?

this is called surging.
is the idle steady, at 800 RPM hot engine?
ever tune up the car,? (called maintenance service points now)

Slow start, low rpm, backfires and shuts off

you must RUN the scanner/computer, you can have the manufacturer specification wrong.
The electronic vehicle is complicated, by that reason you can have wrong tune up, PCM+BCM+sensor+ignition coil faulty ,etc
see the diagram attached.

When stepping on brake pedal engine rpm's go down and after the pedal is released the engine rpm's come back up

Sounds like a vacuum leak. I've had/am having the same problem in my '89 Caddie. Are you noticing any other issues with idle speed (or starting the car) other wise?

Replaced rear brake pads, now there is a hissing sound coming from brake pedal when i start it , come to complete stop and after i turn car off .what is the hissing or air pressure release sound coming...

There are 2 things that can use vacuum near the brake pedal. If you have cruise control, there is a safety switch on the pedal to shut off the curise when you apply the brake. This switch may be leaking.
The other part is the brake booster, which is actually in the engine compartment but bolts to the firewall, and your brake pedal mechanism pushes into the booster. You will need to get your head under the dash with the engine running and press on the pedal to locate the leak--on the switch or on the wall.
