Mitsubishi Eclipse 420a head gasket question

Maybe the torque is insufficient. Was the correct torque sequence followed? Are you reusing stretch head bolts?

97 Mitsubishi Eclipse 420a head gasket replaced, but still leaks. Head was refinished, any thoughts why it didn't take?

The correct practice when doing head work is to remove any build up at that base of the holes and to run a thread tap down to ensure that the thread is clean all the way to the bottom. Blow out the holes with compressed air. In you case leave the head off and screw in each bolt all the way by hand and measure the distance between the head of the bolt and the block surface . IT should be much smaller than the width of the head by say 1/4". If it is then the bolts will allow enough compression of any sort of gasket used . A point of interest here is that this engine uses a torque setting until all the bolts are set and then the final torque is obtained by angular setting of the head of the stud/bolt. Use the correct tensioning sequence as this is vital to set the head properly..

Torque the cylinder head bolts for mitsubishi lancer 2002

Try this
I dont know which engine you have.

420a
1. Torque all center bolts to 25 ft-lbs, torque the 4 corner bolts to 25 ft-lbs
2. Torque all center bolts to 50 ft-lbs, torque the 4 corner bolts to 50 ft-lbs
3. Re-Torque all center bolts to 50 ft-lbs, re-torque the 4 corner bolts to 50 ft-lbs
4. Tighten all bolts in the sequence from #1-#10 an additional 1/4 turn.

7-Bolt 4G63
1. Torque all bolt to 58 ft-lbs in order
2. Loosen all bolts completely to 0 ft-lbs
3. Torque all bolts to 15 ft-lbs in order
4. Tighten all bolt 1/4 turn in order
5. Tighten all bolts an additional 1/4 turn in order.

ARP Head Studs
1. Tighten all bolts to 40 ft-lbs
2. Tighten in steps of 10 ft-lbs increments until the specified torque that you are looking for is reached. This can vary with the amount of boost you plan on running.

Deei just changed my head gaskets on my v-6 eclipse. now i have a oil leak and i have smoking. is it because of a bad seal, on my head gasket

could be, the first thing i would do is get the cyclinder head bolts torqued to right setting.Provided the cyclinder head is not warped ie the engine did not overheat before gasket was replaced? All heads have to be rechecked/retorqued after about 1000mls anyway, adrian,,,,,,,,,,,,

Timeing belt replacement do i need special tools to repalce the timeing belt on a 2002 mitsubishi eculpse v6

actually if you have never done this before, yes...
there is atool to hold the crankshaft pulley in place to remove and re-torque the crankshaft bolt, you'll need a vise to compress the tensioner, they recomend a tool to remove the slack in the belt after installing the new belt, and you'll need an inch pound torque wrench and a foot pound torque wrench that is able to go to 184 NM. air tools help ALOT!
