I wold clean the TB Throttel Body- first open the hatchback on the drivers side if i can recall behind the carpet next to the water bottle for the rear window, there should be a red button depress the button see if it acts write then. if not disconect the neg side battery unplug the wires clean the terminels conect the wires reconect the battery and see if that helps. the button is a emergency shut off switch in case of a reck or fender bender.

duck tape on the air intake. I just fixed mine. There is a crack on the intake that lets too much air in when you put it in drive that makes the car stall. Try it it works.

Three speed automatic? If so the TCC solenoid is the transmission. Its under the side cover on the driver side. You can unplug wire connector going to front of transmission so you can drive it until you get it fixed. It will use more gas due to no torque converter lock up.

1990 Ford Probe idles very roughly while in gear

You might try a new throttle position switch, they're easy to replace and not too expensive .

Rough idle

look on the back of your accordian like air intake will find a small crack...hard to see unless you flex it or at least look carefully....electrical tape will work as a temporary fix. A new flexible air intake hose....which runs from the air flow control box on the fender to the throttle body on top of the engine is about $100....but you can get one from a wrecker for about 5.
