Question about Dodge Caravan
My 2003 dodge caravan wont start. The van makes a clicking noise when you turn the key. When you release the key, it makes a low humming noise for a few moments. after it hums, all the gauges (fuel, speed, temp) go from zero all the way to the max reading, then back to 0.
Im going to say an almost dead battery .the hum you hear might be the fuel pump.you never heard it before because the van normaly starts .so boost your van if it starts you may have to replace the altenator the guages, no worries many cars do that .thats a code needing erased and if you disconnect the battery that may go away.

SOURCE: 98 dodge caravan problems
I had the same issue with my dodge caravan and after several attempts by the dealer to fix it, it turned out to be a broken wire. They replaced the relay and it would work for a while and then go blank again. Have the wires checked thoroughly.

Alignment will not create a sound by it's self. The most common cause of humming (especially if you have an agressive tread design)is a wear pattern in the tires...check for that or rotate the tires around & see if the noise changes. If it does then you know it's in the tires. & Not always, but most of the time a bearing noise will increase or decrease in intensity if you load up one side at a time by doing 35-50 mph & turning slightly to each side.

Check the battery first. Just because the lights are on doesn't mean it has enough power to start the van. If you or the van has a volt meter, the battery should read at least 13-14 volts to be good. If the battery is good then the alternator is good and we move on to the starter solenoid. I'm sure it's one of these. Do the lights go off or very dim when you turn the key? If so then battery.

Testimonial: "Thank so very much! It was the battery and easily fixed with a new duralast from AutoZone!"
Misalignment of the belt, incorrect belt, worn or loose tensioner, Too tight of an adjustment (many service centers do this on purpose so when the belt breaks in it becomes properly adjusted, I do not believe in this philosophy), The belt is actually one long belt called a serpentine belt.....
