Fuel pump and filter appears to be clogged no fuel getting to the eingein

Be very safe when you work with fuel and electricity. Only work with live wires when you are trying to measure their voltage. If fuel leaks then don't work with it until all the fuel vapor is gone. The first to do when you work on a vehicle is to disconnect the negative terminal on the battery.

There must be 12V to the pump for it to pump. If power is to the pump and the pump does not run then the fuel pump and fuel filter need to be replace. If no 12 V is to the pump then you have an electrical problem. Sometimes the pump motor fails or a wire shorts to ground. Either of these can cause a fusable link to blow. If a fusable link is blown you should disconnect the wires to the fuel pump. Next replace the fusable link and if it blows right away then the wires are shorted to ground somewhere. If you now have 12 volts to the wires you disconnected then disconnect the negative terminal of the battery and connect the wires to the pump. With the battery connected and you get fuel pressure then the engine should start. If you get no fuel pressure then the pump needs to be replaced along with the fuel filter.

I hope this helps.

Fuel pump needs to be replaces on 2000 Chevrolet suburban, do I also need a new filter, relay and induction?

Do you know for sure that the fuel pump failed or do you have a bad relay? If the fuel pump relay is good no you don't need to replace it. The fuel pump unit comes with the sending unit and a sock filter. I would replace the inline fuel filter when you replace the pump. In line fuel filters need to be replaced every 36000 miles. If that filter starts to plug up it makes the pump work harder which leads to premature failure.

Came home last night, all was fine, came out today, won't start...turns over, hit with ether, starts... not getting fuel

Hello Trio1.

First item to check is the fuel pressure. (is it cold where you are?, could have a frozen fuel line?)
Open the fuel filler cap and listen while someone turns the key to the on position. There should be a couple seconds of humming noise when the fuel pump runs. If no noise is heard the fuel pump or the wiring to it is bad.
Here's a quick hint and it often works if the fuel pump is the issue. While someone is cranking the engine over with the starter, hit the bottom of the fuel tank with a baseball bat or something similar. Not too hard! Just enough to vibrate the fuel pump into making contact on the armature motor brushes.
If this gets the car running it's only very temporary, you will need to replace the fuel pump. I guarantee it will happen again, only you may not be so fortunate the next time.

If you do hear the fuel pump run you will need to check that it is developing pressure.
On the fuel rail where the fuel injectors are on the intake manifold the is a fitting where a fuel pressure tester is attached to. There should be 50 to 60 PSI when the key is turned on. If low on pressure you will need a new pump.
A partially plugged fuel filter is hard on fuel pumps, it does make them work hard. Replace it too.
If your fuel pressure is OK then you will need to find out if your fuel injectors are firing.
If you need help with those, let me know here, I doubt we will need to get that far, but just in case.

Thank you for using FixYa.

The fuel pump has intermittent problems. I have

it is not uncommon for a replacement pump to be bad. I repalced a pump in my daughter's car three times before getting one that worked properly. You may have a bad one and need to return it .

What controls the injector pulse on a 2002 buick rendezvous?

All fuel enjected vehicles have a fuel pump relay that controls the pump action when pulling (pumping) fuel to the fuel rail.

If you are experiencing lack of fuel to the engine, chances are that the fuel pump relay needs replaced.

To determine this, answer the following:

1. Is there fuel pressure on the fuel rail after shutting the engine off (at operating temperature) one hour or more after shut off?

If so, then it may not be the relay. It could be the sending unit (fuel pump) itself, but it feul pressure is not present upon pressing the needle in under the black knob on the fuel rail; replace the fuel pump relay first. If this doesn't work, then the fuel pump may need replaced.

Please let me know if you need anymore assistance, or further questions or concerns. Also, inquire abou this with a local parts dealer, as they will also be able to help you in this matter.

The relay and pump are something that you should be able to do yourself, and not have to go to a mechanic or dealer to have replaced. Unless there is extraordinary work invloved, which I highly doubt, but is possible.

Fuel pump rset button

No, there is no RESET button. SOMETIMES when you run out of gas, the fuel pump will continue running DRY ( no fuel ) until the engine quits ( losses oil pressure ) which shuts off the fuel pump. Unfortunately this causes the fuel pump to burn out. Most probably needs replacement. Test for power to the fuel pump. Hope this helps.

94 dodge grand caravan no fuel in fuel rail

Dear Ron, you have replaced fuel pump and fuel filter. You have checked the fuel pump relay. Still no fuel in rail. Try bypassing fuel relay with jumper from batt to fuel pump. If o/k then check computer for ground to relay. This system uses a relay that is operated by the computer that supplies a ground for the relay to operate. The wire color is green,16 gage. If the ground is not available then "no fuel" Check this with a test light. Key on and crank apply test light to ground wire and other end of light to ground. You should hear relay click and get fuel. If this checks out you will need to replace computer or get creative with rewiring the relay so it works without computer input. Good luck Moe
