Yeah, if you take those studs out for the alternator it is a big help, I recall that there are 3 of them. Once those are out of the way, you can squeak the alt out by the side of the exhaust manifold if you flatten down the heat shield first. You'll have just enough room to get it out. Good luck!!

This method worked on a 2005 Ford Focus ZXW.

SOURCE: VW alternator won't fit on brackets on engine

You need to widen the gap between the tabs. This will allow the alternator to slip over the bracket much easier. Get a socket big enough to allow the threaded insert to be driven inside it. (18/19mm) Then thread the bolt in a few threads and give the bolt a few taps with a hammer until the threaded insert moves about 1/8" or so. This will allow the alternator to fit easily in the bracket and the insert will be pulled back in as the bolt is tightened.

you dont have to take it off. remove the 2 15mm bolts and pry the bracket sideways w/ a prybar. This shortens your time. You most likely have a 90amp alternator so it should be small enough to slide through.

Sounds like the "long bolt" is frozen. It goes through the alternator housing and gets corroded. Also make sure the small bracket on the back is unbolted.

Cant loosen the bolt that holds my alternator on, for my 2006 2.4 camry, ive been using a 14 mil ring spanner and trying to turn it anti clock wise? also how do you loosen the belt?

Try using a 14mm socket and extension bar.
If you do not have that then simply get a 19mm ring spanner and use it as an extension bar onto the open end of the 14mm spanner.
Once loosened you will also need a12mm ring spanner to loosen the pinch bolt that holds the alternator belt adjustment bracket.

Where is the alternator located on a 2006 Ford Taurus?

Hi,

If yours is the 3.0L (2 valve) engine, then location will be obvious - next to the degas bottle on the engine.

However....if it's the 3.0L (4 valve) engine, then:
  1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
  2. Remove the accessory drive belt.
  3. Remove the power steering hose bracket nut from the alternator mounting bolt.
  4. Remove the upper alternator mounting bolts. NOTE: The left side bolt will come out with the alternator.
  5. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  6. Remove the right front wheel.
  7. Remove the right inner fender splash shield.
  8. Remove the screws and the alternator splash shield
  9. Remove the torque converter inspection cover.
  10. Install the flywheel holding tool.
  11. Remove the bolt and the crankshaft pulley. NOTE: The crankshaft pulley bolt has a reverse thread. The crankshaft pulley and bolt are a molded composite and are one piece.
  12. Lower the alternator to allow access to the electrical connectors.
  13. Disconnect the crankshaft sensor.
  14. Release the oxygen sensor connector locator from the bracket.
  15. Remove the lower alternator bolt.
  16. Disconnect the regulator electrical connector.
  17. Disconnect the remaining wiring from the alternator and remove the alternator
I know....what a pain !

Cheers,

Scott
