If your battery is reading 12volts when the ignition is off, it is healthy. Turning the ignition on and running the engine, you should see the voltage going up to 18 volts. If not, your alternator is bad.

I had my alternator repaired but went bad again after the "warranty" expired. I bought a new one. Cannot trust this repair. To prolong your alternator, never rely on the alternator to fully charge your battery when it is dead. You will strain the alternator. Use external charger or replace the battery if the dealer says it is already weak.

SOURCE: Ford 2003 Expedition EB. Check Charging System

Its probably the alternator. It will need to be tested on the vehicle with the engine running and the light illuminated. Measure the battery voltage with the engine running. It should be at least 13.5 volts. If it is lower have the alternator tested at a shop with a charging system tester.

Why is the charging light on my 2006ford f150stays on when its cherging ok

Let me start out by explaining how the light works. The light is positioned in the wiring between the battery and the alternator. It indicates a flow in electricity. If the alternator quits charging electricity will flow from the battery to the alternator and the light will indicate the flow. If the battery is bad electricity will flow from the alternator to the battery and the light will light up. the first thing I do is clean the cables on the battery. Then I start the truck. While the truck is running disconnect one of the battery cables from the battery. If the truck shuts off the alternator is not charging. If the truck runs with the battery disconnected the battery is the problem.

Instrument panel battery light, what indicates?

It indicates low or too much voltage. It's either a low battery, a voltage regulator that is going out (it's built into the alternator), or an alternator that is not charging the battery back up. If you know for a fact that the battery is good (not old and it holds a charge ok), pull the alternator and take it to a local auto parts store. Most of them will test it for free.

Ford Contour possible short

Check the alternator is not faulty.
The battery terminal voltage when engine is running should be approx 14.5V with headlights or venilation blower motor running.
The battery light indicator 'on' usually means the alternator is not charging.

Why does the battery light keep coming on after

The battery light indicates insufficient voltage. I would recheck all the battery connections to be sure they are clean and tight. I would also have the alternator output tested, since the light will come on if the alternator is not providing sufficient voltage to keep the battery charged. Take the vehicle to an autoparts store and they will test the battery condition and alternator output for free. Sorry for your trouble and I hope this helped, Best wishes.
