SOURCE: Replace muffler, not the catalytic converter which started to rattle. Stop running, will crank but will not start. can it be the catalytic converter.

if the converter is rattlin then it needs to be replaced because the element inside is broken. if the jeep still does not run try removing the catalytic converter to see if the restriction is too much. should start if the converter is restricted. if it doesnt maybe its whatever caused the converter to go bad in the first place

My muffler is loud

Do people hear your vehicle coming down the street before they can actually see it? This can be an embarrassing situation. A muffler that is suddenly noisy is often caused by the driver hitting something while on the road, damaging the exhaust system. Rust can also be a culprit of holes in the muffler, resulting in a noisy muffler which gets progressively worse as the holes get bigger.
Exhaust systems in newer vehicles may now last well over 100,000 miles without causing any concerns. But because the exhaust system is exposed to the conditions of the road, damage may occur without warning. The parts of the exhaust system that can be damaged include:
  • Manifold
  • Pre-catalytic converter
  • Front pipe
  • Catalytic converter
  • Intermediate exhaust pipe
  • Front muffler
  • Rear exhaust pipe
  • Rear Muffler
If you do hear a loud noise and you suspect it is the exhaust system, be sure to keep fresh air coming into the vehicle and don't sit in the car while it's idling. If there is a leak, carbon monoxide, a toxic gas, can get into the interior of the car. There is no distinguishing odor so it is easy to be overcome by it.
In order for your vehicle to keep running smoothly, all of its components need to be in good working order. Taking the time for regular car inspections and keeping up with needed repairs is the best way to ensure that everything is working as it should. This inspection should include the exhaust system.

Why does 2006 nissa sentre SE-R SP 1.8 L make a loud exhaust noise? is it just a muffler?

It could possibly be a baffle in the muffler that is causing it to vibrate with acceleration from the engine, or even a exhaust leak from a connection that broke or the gasket has failed. The catalytic convertor might also be the culprit. I would take the vehicle into a shop that specializes in exhaust work and let them put it up on lift to see whats actually going on.

Exhaust broke coming out of motor

I don't think you will be able to weld it too well either

It will have a mostly stainless steel presence & require
TIG Welding

The problem will be having it Media Blasted to get it clean
enough to weld & you need to cap the ends & flow nitrogen
thu while welding

No fix other than attempting to weld or replace with salvage
yard part

How to fix muffler exhaust?

New exhaust would be the best way to go. Maybe from the catalytic converter back. You can get muffler tape at your local parts store but it wouldnt be permanant nor will it pass inspection.

Catilyic converter broke off and jeep quit running

You will need to buy a new one. Your engine needs a cirtain amout of back pressure to run. Have it towed to a muffler shop and fixed. Or you can do it yourself at a lower cost. Here is a web site with some good prices on convertes.

Blown exhaust on a vw passat can i fix it?

There is only one way to really fix a blown exaust and thats to replace it. It's not a bad job as long as you can get the car hi enough off the ground. You need a 14 mm wrench 13mm wrench WD40 14mm-13mm sockets and a swear jar for the kids so they make money!! Find out what part of the pipe is blowing by putting a potato over the end of the system with the car running. Perhaps you only need a small portion of the system.

Loud muffler sound is it the muffler

It can be the muffler. Also the Catalytic converter or just a gasket connecting the exhaust manifold to the pipes.

This needs to be inspected because fumes can kill. The entire system is meant to get the fumes to the back bumper through the pipes.

Exhaust Pipe broke/Rust on muffler

Flex pipe will work, or if it's a straight section of pipe you can buy a universal piece of exhaust tubing with flared ends, trim off the rusty ends on your original pipe with a hacksaw or Sawzall and slip in the new section. Clamp it with 2 muffler clamps and you're set. Total cost should be under $40.

Exhaust tube is dragging

You can fix this until you get the parts by using a wire hanger. The part that broke is called the muffler hanger. Not a big deal and is an easy fix. You don't have to buy anything spectacular if you don't want to. It is just to support the muffler/exhaust.

Now, did the muffler get the hole in it or did the catalytic converter get it?
