Your timing is controlled by the computer and cannot be adjusted. No distributor. Unless you have a race car, it doesn't get adjusted.

How do i bypass a sterter/clutch switch in a 1996 ford mustang

I'll assume you mean the switch that won't allow you to start the car unless the clutch pedal is depressed? If so this is not recommended as it's a safety feature. If you disable this the car will move if started in gear and this could be very dangerous.

Otherwise you'll need to look under the dash for the switch. It's in-line with the clutch pedal and it's fairly far up. It typically looks like this:

To bypass this you will simply have to jumper the wires together to make the connection as if the clutch were depressed. You'll need to test these with a test light or multi-meter to figure out the proper wires.

1996 Ford Mustang

I have no experience at all with Ford products, but if I had to guess, it would be the that either the connector came loose, or the sensor in the transmission that sends the speed signal to the computer/ speedometer failed. You should be able to see this sensor near the rear of the transmission. It is held in place with a single bolt, and has an electrical connector. Check that the connector is securely in place and that the wires are not frayed or broken. If you find you need a new sensor, they cost about $30.
