Car wont start,it keep saying step on brake and push start button

Press the brake pedal and have some see if you have brake lights. No lights, replace the brake switch under the dash. Lights on could be the start button or wiring.

Brake lights and hazards probably share the same fuse. And that is possibly the one for the brake interlock on the shifter also.

Can a brake switch keep the car from starting??

Many new cars have stuff interconnected. I've seen some that want you to press on the brake to get it out of park, put it in park to get the key out of the switch, etc. The cruise control is disconnected by the brake, and the car will beep at you if you leave anything on and try to take the key out.
Check with your owner's manual about your car's preferences. If the car is not properly in park or neutral, it won't start.

If my transmission isn't plugged up correctly in

transmission plugged up?? you never have to plug or unplug transmission.there is a part called park/neutral safety switch if its bad or misadjusted of course it will keep the car from starting.to check it for misadjustment, keep your foot on brake, apply emergency brake keep the ignition key turned as if you were trying to starts it,start from park and go all the way down to 1 if it starts in any position other than park or neutral you have a misadjusted switch.

Brake lights

No, not that switch, but the brake light switch on the brake pedal. It may just need adjusting to turn off when brake pedal is not pressed.
The neutral safety switch is in your starting circuit to keep car from starting when not in park or neutral.

I have a 1995 Maxima, and the brake lights keep going out as the 15 amp fuse under the dash keeps blowing. The tail lights themselves work, and all the other lights work. No brake lights will work. I'm...

TO SIMPLIFY,fuse box-pedal switch-tail light cluster, maybe something inbetween but hardly likely...start with cleaning the contacts for the brake bulbs as they may have verdigris on the brass connectors, then change the switch, then worry.

It will not shift out of park

first is to check all the fuses, then check brake light switch, power comes from brake pedal brake light switch, when pedal is push power is sent to brake lights and power is also sent to shift lock seloniod, when this seloniod is power up it releases the arm that keeps the shifter locked. so if theres no power or a bad brake switch then the shifter wont unlock,so start with the fuses then the brake light switch, hope this is helpful.

How to replace the brake light switch on a 1998 gmc sierra truck

Brake light switch is active by the brake paddle.

Before you start, take a picture or do a sketch of the spring or linkage around the brake paddle.

Move the seat back will give you better access.

Press the paddle and the inner side (closer to the firewall) of the paddle will activate the switch.

Please keep in mind there are fuse(s) to protect the lighting circuit.

Check all the fuses before you R&R the brake switch,
