My truck is using alot of water. I have not noticed it leaking on the ground. But I can always tell the water is low when my heat stops working. I add coolant & the heat works again. Where could t

The heat stops because there is not enough antifreeze to run through the heater core in the cab. The symptoms you are describing sound like the head gasket is leaking antifreeze into the cylinders and it is turning to steam a going out the exhaust. You need to check the oil and be sure that it is not milky looking. That would mean that the coolant is leaking into the oil pan too and that is very bad. Also you need to know that antifreeze will destroy the catalytic converter and it wont pass emissions. You are looking at several thousand dollars worth of repairs.

What problems would a bad heater core cause

A bad heater core could cause a couple of isses. If it is plugged internaly you would get no heat. If it is leaking you would have anti-freeze dripping into the cab on the right side or dripping under the car in the area of the right floor board.

Over heating , antifreeze leeking from that water

Hello,

If your water pump is leaking from the water pump for sure that is causing your over heating problem. I am sure that most likely the seal is gone. There is a main seal in the pump, and those are normally the first to go, and you are better off replacing the whole pump, that trying to fix it. Once your water pump is replaced , the over heating problem should be fixed. If pump is leaking it does not have the pressure provided to have the antifreeze and water to flow correctly through engine block and radiator.

Thanks Mike

Antifreeze steam comeing through vents

Your heater core has a leak, it's like a small radiator that heats up and the blower motor blows air thru it to create heat in the car. It is leaking anti freeze into the heater box.

You need the cooling system topped off and the system pressure tested to find the leak and repair it then everything should be ok.

02 Alero not overheating, no heat

When you say not leaking antifreeze has your coolant level gone down at all? and is it that you have seen no leaks where you park it? What worries me is you can smell it when warming up, have you felt the interior floors to see if damp and do you get any condensation if put blower onto screen, if so then heater matrix is leaking if not could be down to headgasket and/or cylinder head leak.
