Coolant sensor wiring would be the next place to look. Make sure connector is good, and look for broken wires.

SOURCE: 1996 Jeep Cherokee coolant sensor bad

This trouble is common in this models, I have one '93 ZJ and my signal Sensor Coolant Level also is ON for long time; first, try to clean the plug and reset the ECU. If the signal show again, maybe you need replace this sensor.

For more details about location and diagnotics, check this documents:

Electronic display says coolant sensor bad. I replaced the sensor located in the recovery bottle, but it still reads bad?

Good Evening, I can certainly understand your problem, I fought with a 97 grand cherokee with the same problem, at the end of all the troubleshooting it ended up being the information display module. Certainly it is something to consider, especially changing the sensor a couple times to be sure. Hope this helps, If you have any more questions please feel free to ask.

Coolant sensor keeps saying bad would that cause it to over heat jeep laredo 97 grand cherokee

Yes, cause that sensor operates the electric cooling fans by the radiator, if those fans or fan don't come on, the radiator can't cool down as quick and causes the engine to run hotter.

1995 jeep cherokee coolant line broke we fixed it

Take it back to the shop that fixed it or if you did it yourself, check that you didn't disconnect a sensor/plug from the transmission.

Like many others, I'm having trouble with my '97 Jeep Grand Cherokee with the 4.0 L engine and 4X4. Engine sporadically misfires, especially when coming to a stop. Sometimes dies on idle or startup....

Make sure the ignition coil drive is in proper sync. The sync should be at or close to 0. Also try an engine decarb this works great on 4.0 engines. Also if the misfire is coming for #3 there is a bulliten on installing a heat sheild around the #3 injector because it takeing a lot of heat from the exhaust mainfold that sits right under it.

97 Jeep Cherokee, drove it all the way home and it died -no power

Biggest problem on that truck is the crank sensor, it will fail intermittantly and give you the problem you describe. It is located in the bellhousing of the transmission directly behind the cylinder head and below the firewall. I can tell you how to check it, but since you are throwing parts at the problem, put a crank sensor on it. I'm willing to bet that will take care of it. They usually come with a paper spacer on the bottem to keep it from contacting the flywheel, and if it does, just set the spacer on the flywheel and tighten the bolt, if there is no spacer, make sure the sensor isn't touching the flywheel or it will break the sensor as soon as you turn the key. Hope this helps.
Good luck

97 Jeep grand cherokee 6 cyl. idles down to 0 and dies.

any leaks in intake or exhaust upstream of the sensors, sparkplug condition and engine controls/sensors for out of range operation (including fuel pressure and condition of regulator)
IAC should be cleaned and checked as this can cause poor idle and shut down. I'm not saying not to change O2 sensors, but unless everything else if OK, it probably won't help.
