Question about 2004 Ford F150

No start, no crank

Replaced battery, starter, neutral safety switch on the side of the tranny, new ignition module turn key and starter wont engage, if i jump from the hot side of the battery to the wire leading to the starter it will crank but not start (key is in correct position). checked all fuses relays and wiring for correct voltage and continuity.

Do you hear a click if you do its probably your starter cylinoyed if it works when you jump the wire you are bypassing it hope this helps pat

If the starter won't engage, you can't crank the engine. You would only hear the starter operating freely. The replacement starter may have to be shimmed to fully engage the ring gear. Also, did you verify that the ring gear is OK?

If your saying the starter motor won't crank the engine. Battery connections all good? Pull the starter relay, use jumper wire between terminals 30 and 87, terminal 30, hot all the time. The starter motor should crank. If you try that, make sure the tranny is in park or neutral and the parking brake is set. If it cranks with the jumper, the problem is on control side of relay. The control side has to have voltage and ground. As you can see, the neutral or clutch switch is involved, depending on the tranny. There are also fuses involved.

Why wont my 2004 buick la sabre crank when i turn the key ?...my lights do not dim they all come on but the car wont start??i have changed the battery


Any light's lit on the insturment cluster ? SECURITY or a car an padlock symbol ?
Circuit Description
Moving the ignition switch to the START position sends a 12 volt signal to the powertrain control module (PCM) Ignition Crank Sense. The PCM verifies that the transmission is in the PARK or NEUTRAL position. The PCM then grounds the control circuit of the START relay. When the START relay is energized it allows battery positive voltage to the starter solenoid S terminal.
Have you tried to move the gear selector to neutral ? Park neutral safety switch .
Looking at a wiring diagram to see what all is involved in the starter electrical circuits , using a volt meter an testing the circuits is how to find starting problems .

Safety switch ? For what ? Park neutral safety switch ,is this what you mean ? Your vehicle not starting ? There is a lot more involved then just that switch.
Circuit Description
For ignition switch power modes refer to Body Control System Description and Operation. Once the ignition is placed in the Run/Crank position, the control circuit of the Run/Crank relay is grounded by the body control module (BCM). With the Run/Crank relay switch closed, battery positive voltage flows through it and on to the park/neutral position (PNP) switch. With the PNP switch in either the Park or Neutral position, battery positive voltage will flow to the starter relay coil supply voltage input terminal of the powertrain control module and the coil side of the starter relay. Placing the ignition in the START position sends a message to the engine control module (ECM)/powertrain control module (PCM) requesting engine start. If the ECM/PCM has determined that the transmission is in Park or Neutral and theft is not active, it will ground the control circuit of the starter relay. Battery positive voltage will then flow through the switch side of the starter relay to the S terminal of the starter solenoid, cranking the engine. For remote vehicle start (RVS) information, refer to Keyless Entry System Description and Operation.

If the security system has been reset ( no light on/flashing ) you may have a neutral safety switch problem, Will the vehicle crank over in neutral? In most cases, the neutral switch grounds the starter relay and allows it to operate. Does the starter relay connector have 2 powers? One constant and one with key on/cranking? If these power supplies are there, suspect the ground side of the relay to be the problem and possible neutral safety switch

I have grand am gt 2002 most time it starts.replace starter and new battrie. when turn the keyno power to moter I have to turn the keys on and off couple time and then it starts up any ideas on whats


Could be issue with ignition switch or security system? If the starter motor won't crank, check voltage circuits at the starter. Usually two voltage circuits, one is battery voltage, hot all the time. The other voltage comes from crank position of ignition switch. That circuit could be routed through the neutral switch or clutch switch, depending on your tranny.

Any testing at starter make sure tranny is in park or neutral and the parking brake is set.

I think the purple wire (or maybe the yellow) from the neutral safety switch goes to the coil side of the starter relay, turning it on so power is sent from there to the starter solenoid. You could check for this signal to the relay with a test light. The key must be held in start while you probe the other two terminals for the relay. If the signal is there, either a bad relay or the coil side of relay is not grounded properly. It is possible that the coil side ground is the neutral safety switch-grounding the relay's coil side only in park or neutral-in which case the nagging light on shifter (between off and run, it only works?) may be telling you the safety switch is the problem.

You may need to look at a wiring diagram, Greg. But the starter relay is the last component in the start circuit before the starter solenoid. From battery to ignition switch to "crank" fuse to neutral safety switch to starter relay to starter solenoid to starter-and back to battery through ground. That is the start circuit. Just that the wiring tying them all together makes it complicated.

A neutral safety switch is bad. If a car doesn't start with the transmission in Park, but starts in Neutral, it could be caused by a problem with a neutral safety switch.

My 92 lincoln town car will not start i have replaced the starter, the neutral safety switch and the battery but when i turn key nothing happens but can jump starter and will crank


Yes there is a starter relay in the wiring diagram.
The yellow and lite blue wire goes from the starter solenoid to the relay. There is a yellow wire from the relay to a 30amp fuse. The key switch powers thru the neutral safety switch and then powers the relay on.

Can the pcm cause the starter not to turn in my 2000 dodge neon?


Is it getting fuel? Check the pressure regulator or the fuel pump. Even if you have the plug wires on wrong it should do something.
