SOURCE: 2002 Hyundai Accent lost power

Just the change dipstick and the oil in the car and also check if there is any debris in the car as the broken dipstick which may cause damaged to the engine ,You found the problem it was the oil burn which is causing the loss of power ,and also clean the alternator ..

Good luck....

Look or listen for a vacuum leak. Brittle hoses or ones that just break off.

SOURCE: Battery overcharges and light is on

Never saw a charging system problem cause anyone to fail inspection. But, overcharging will cook the water out of your battery and can damage the computer system if not taken care of. Overcharge can be caused by either a grounded alternator field wire or a bad regulator. Since the condition appeared after replacing the alternator it too is suspect as an internal grounding can also cause that.

SOURCE: renault megane engine light flashing and car is juddering.

I have 2 meganes im working on at the moment both have the same problem. the electrical falt light is on coz the pipe has snapped (or come off) under the bonnet on the passangers side close to the window (theres a black box about 2 inch wide the pipe connects underneath). if I reconect the pipe and grab the engien with both hands it wobbles and the pipe pulls off. I suspect this is coz one (or all) the engien mountings are shagged. and this will be the cause of the juddering when driveing in first and second gears. solutions iv have come across for juddering involve changeing the coil pack but thats nothing to do with the problem my 2 cars have as one of them has new coils. they are 1.6 petrol, p reg and s reg

1996 toyota corolla, battery & alternator

If the battery has been overcharged then the cells will be damaged . Have a load test done on the battery to confirm failure and if so then get a new battery.. have the alternator checked at the same time because there is a possibility that the regulator in the alternator has been also damaged allowing over charging of the battery. By having incorrectly connected the jumper leads then you may have also damaged the cpu unit of the engine management box. Best have an autro electrician look at it .

Could one WHAT be overcharging the other WHAT???

To understand the problem you must first understand that the car runs off of the BATTERY. The job of the alternator is to replace the power that the car uses back to the battery. The car DOES NOT operate off of the alternator (many people do not get this). The charge light comes on when the charging voltage from the alternator is lower than the voltage that is available at the battery posts (that is why the charge light is ALWAYS on when the ignition switch is on but the engine is not running.

If the CHARGING SYSTEM had been PROPERLY tested, you would have seen this in the tests. If you removed your alternator to have it tested, this does not test the charging system in the car.

This can be caused by a failure or high resistance in ANY PART of the charging system. This includes not only the battery and the alternator, but also all of the connecting cables, wires and the ignition switch.

If the battery and alternator are both good, then the problem is most likely a loose or badly corroded battery cable. However, high resistance in the ignition switch circuit to the alternator can also cause this type of problem. The charging system in your car needs to be PROPERLY tested to pinpoint the location of the fault.

I have a renault espace I fitted a new alternator appx 5 yrs ago it has now stopped charging could it be an alternator relay problem or do I need a new alternator?

5 years is alot of miles ago... it's possibly bad. If you have a voltmeter you can verify. With car running, connect voltmeter to battery and it should read between 13.1 volts - 15.8 volts. Anything lower, alternator is bad. Also have your battery "load tested", it can give similar symptoms.

I was driving my 1995 renault espace when the headlights and back lights suddenly went dim then the electric windows and the electrics went. I kept driving till I got home then switched the engine off- now...

It sounds like your alternator needs to be looked at. It could just be a loose belt but it is more likely that something has burnt out inside it and it will need to be replaced. The battery will have to be charged up before you can accurately measure the voltage output on the alternator. That should be 13.5 to 14.2 if it is properly charging. Hope this helps.

I have a 2002 pontiac grand 4 cylinder, there is some sort of power surge that is going on that is blowing my headlights out about 1 time in every 5 days

check your grounds as well as alternator out put. if alternator is going bad it is obviously overcharging your battery too. go by autozone. have alternator test run and check those grounds. why you are at it have a load test run on your battery at autozone. they do this stuff free of charge. also double check wire harness in light assembly.

Renault espace starting problems

I have a 2000 Espace and for years it has suffered from a non-start problem. It can be fine for ages and then, suddenly, there's nothing when you turn the ignition, not even a click. All instruments light up. It's not the battery. Does this sound familiar?

In my case, time and time again it has been what they call the 'firewire' connection on to the starter - the connection becomes corroded over time and fails to pass sufficient voltage.

If the terminal becomes too badly burned, where the voltage has arced because of a poor connection, apparently the only solution is to fit a new starter motor. But so far, in my case, it's just needed a clean of the connector and terminal.

By the way, holding the ignition key in the ON position for some time (30 seconds or more) can sometimes cause it to fire up.
