How to place the main bearing shaft support back into Muncie 4 speed transmission

Here's what Chilton has to say on assembling the main shaft.
1.assemble 2nd gear, from rear of main shaft, with hub toward rear.
2.Install 1-2 synchronizer ring , with clutch taper to rear, together with a blocker ring on each side so their keyways line up with the clutch keys. Some units will have a snap ring to go on now or some units will have a 1st gear spacer sleeve to go on.
3. Install 1st gear with hub toward front and 1st gear thrust washer.
4.Press rear main bearing onto shaft being sure to seat it firmly. The diagram shows a piece of 1 and 5/8 ID pipe used to do this.
5. Install correct snap ring in groove on mainshaft behind rear bearing. Max gap between snap ring and rear face of bearing is 0"-.005".
6.Install 3rd gear, hub to front, and synchronizing ring, notches to front.
7. Install 3-4 clutch assembly with taper and hub to front. Make sure keys in hub correspond to notches in 3rd gear synchronizer.
8.Install snap ring on mainshaft with ends of snap ring behind spline teeth.
9.Install rear bearing retainer. Spread snap ring in plate to allow plate to drop around main bearing and press on end of mainshaft until snap ring engages groove on bearing.
10. Install reverse gear with collar to rear.
11. Press speedometer gear drive on mainshaft. From the inside face of the speedometer drive to the inside face of the rear bearing retainer should be 4 and 5/16".

Fig. Fig. 4: Main bearing cap bolt tightening sequence on 3E and 3E-E engines

  1. Fit the upper bearings halves into the block and position the lower bearing halves in the bearing caps.
  2. Place the crankshaft into the engine block, making sure it fits exactly into its mounts.
  3. Install the upper thrust washers on the center main bearing with the oil grooves facing outward.
  4. Install the main bearing caps and the lower thrust washers in the proper sequence. Make sure the arrows on the caps point towards the front (pulley end) of the motor.
  5. Tighten the cap bolts to specification in three passes. On 3E and 3E-E engines, use the correct sequence.
  6. Double check the end-play of the crankshaft by repeating the procedure described earlier.
  7. Turn the crankshaft through one or two full clockwise rotations, making sure that it turns smoothly and evenly with no binding.
  8. Attach the piston rods, following procedures given earlier in this section. Remember that the rod caps must be reinstalled in their original positions.
  9. Install a new rear main oil seal into the retainer and install the retainer onto the block. Tighten the bolts to specification.
  10. Install the rear end plate on the engine.
  11. Install either the driveplate (automatic) or the flywheel (manual), observing the matchmarks made during removal.
  12. If equipped with a manual transaxle, reinstall the clutch disc and pressure plate.
  13. Install the oil pump.
  14. Install the oil strainer and oil pan, using new gaskets.
  15. Rotate the engine into its upright position and continue reassembly of the timing belt, idler pulley and covers.
  16. Reinstall the engine in the car, following procedures outlined earlier in this section.

Rear main seal

You must remove the transmission to replace the rear main, you must have the special tools to install it as well or you will just have another leak within a very short time after installing the new rear main seal.

I accidently switched the cables when installing a new battery now the car won't turn on nor can i get the ****** out of park. I am guessing a computer shorted?

If you are lucky, it blew out the main fuse link that is in line between the battery and the main power coupling on the starter. Still not cheap or easy, but far better than an ECU surge, hopefully. Good luck.

How do i set the timing on a 2002 jeep grand cherokee laredo 6 cyl?

Your timing is locked. (distributor is installed with no adjustment feature... on 02's you may not even have a distributor as it's replaced by the cam sensor) All timing and fuel mixture is controlled by the engine computer. Main inputs to the computer that influence changes are the throttle position sensor and MAP sensor but all sensor inputs are evaluated.

Would installing a car radio cd other than the original would avoid seeing vehicle information like low coolant warnings, oil life, etc.

No there is no relationship with the engine sensors and the radio. The radio is actually a computer module, but won't interrupt any vital information like that between the other modules. The IPC (instrument Panel Cluster) is also a module and receives the data from the sensors from the main engine computer and will still work normally.

Engine main seals leaking

Replace them.

You will need to diagnose exactly which seals are leaking.

Replacing the front main seal requires removal of the cam timing components, including the timing belt and lower timing cog. The front main engine seal is installed in the oil pump, and can be removed with a pick. The new seal should be installed with care, using ether a seal installer tool or a socket/pipe of size equal to the metal ring in the seal, using a gentle tapping with a small hammer or board to ensure that you don't damage the seal. You must also ensure that the seal is seated fully in the bore. Ensure that you install the seal in the correct orientation.

If the rear main seal needs to be replaced, you will need to remove the engine or transmission from the vehicle to access it.

Rear main seal

THE REAR MAIN IS WHAT IS CALLED A FULL CIRCLE SEAL, SO YES THE TRANS AND FLYWHEEL MUST BE REMOVED, U WILL ALSO NEED THE SPECIAL FORD SEAL INSTALLER, WITHOUT IT THE SEAL WILL MOST LIKELY LEAK SOONER AFTER INSTALLATION.
