Just guessing you have a hydraulic clutch with a clutch master cylinder and perhaps even a slave cylinder as well.

First, I'd check the fluid in the clutch master cylinder reservoir. It should be described in your owner's manual.

Why is my clutch pedel so hard

Hi June, firstly there is no real need to post the same query so many times. If you are concerned that nobody will take notice of just one, twice would do.

Now to the clutch problem, if it was done by a mechanic, why not just take it back and demand it be fixed?

This problem itself is often caused by

- binding cable quadrant (where the cable terminates on the transmission)
- poor quality or worn clutch cable with high internal friction
- cable housing mounted on the car body at an angle, causing binding
- clutch cable sheath pinched or kinked

Cant select gears in my escort gti, the thrust bearing is winding

this sounds like the throwout breaing is going or gone bad and may have lost it purpose of controling the pressure plate, by not being able to select a gear tells me something has gone bad in the clutch system like the bearing which pushes the pressure plate to release the cluch which allow ****** to stop spinning so that the gear can be selected. the repair for this would be to replace the clutch kit. the clutch pack will come with new bearing clutch disc and pressure plate and if needed a polit bushing, the whining noise was a warning that something in the cluch system was going bad.

Part missing from clutch trust arm on ford escort

Hi. The same thing happened to me yesterday and I called out the RAC.
Fortunately the culprit was left dangling on the end of the clutch cable, what the nice Rac man described as a 'counterweight'. This is a roughly 2inch cube unit, mainly rubber, that clicks over the end of the arm and the cable itself fits into.It seemed to fit back in position after a little lubrication and a bit of wiggling.
Only fitted to some cars, apparently , (and not mentioned in my Haynes manual). Mr Rac not sure if it should be bonded to the arm, or just left 'clicked' in place.
Hope this helps a bit. Boatyman47

I have a 1998 ford escort cx wagon, the clutch has broke..is it possible it could be the cable? does it have a cable? or is it a hydraulic clutch? or would I need to replace the clutch? :-)

Hi!
There may be a possibility the cable has snapped, however Ford used a ratchet and pawl set up on the Escort which is made of plastic! when it reaches its full tension (Self Adjusting) it can break leaving you with a baggy soppy floppy clutch pedal. So a clutch replacement is NOT required!
If the cable has broken you should be able to see from under the Bonnet/hood as it is situated on top of the gearbox Bell housing. Again a Clutch is NOT needed.
Hope this sorts it?

Clutch bite

Same symptoms on my espace, but the cause was first cable adjustment (easy, but get your local garage to do it if you are not confident), then subsequently a bent clutch pedal. The design of these components is so BAD that you are likely to encounter deformation in the pedal or the pedal box before the clutch itself fails. These problems can be solved by a good garage, and still probably cheaper than prematurely replacing the clutch.
