SOURCE: Hi I just bought a Volvo 850 turbo with 110,000

Sounds like you do have ignition switch problem, But to test where the voltage drain is you need to disconnect the battery negative terminal ,hook a multimeter up between the negative battery post and the negative battery cable and start pulling fuses one at time and putting them back in one at time until you a drop in the current draw. Please note there should always be a miniscule (.3 amps or less that powers the radio memory and such).

SOURCE: 1983 Volvo 850 All warning lights on and no power steering

All the warning lights came on on our 1983 Volvo and stayed on until I drove the car about 1/4 mile. I figured that it was probably caused by a poor elelectrical connection. Several weeks later this problem occured again. I shut the engine off, connected a volt meter. Indicated DC voltage was 12.25 with the engine turned off and 11.46 with the engine on, indicating that the alternator was not working. I disconnected a red wire connected to the back of the alternator, scraped the dirt off of the quick connect terminal and reconnected the wire. When I restarted the engine the warning lights all turned off and the voltage went to 14.35 indicating that the alternator is charging. The alternator and power steering systems are both driven by belts so if both quit working at the same time, check the belts first.

How do fix a volvo 850 starter that won't stop?

You have power energizing the starter solenoid. You need to disconnect the small wire with the female connector and trace it back to the ignition switch. You either have a a bad wire or wires or a bad ignition switch. You need to isolate the wire and see if it has power when it is disconnected from the ignition switch

Volvo 850 problem

P1310 is a misfire code which means misfire on more that one cylinder. Cat was probably damages as a result of the misfire. Start with replacement of the ignition cap, rotor, wires and plugs. could be another issue but most likely it is ignition 80-90% of the time

96 Volvo 850 Turbo. Both headlights went out but the high beams work if I hold the switch back. Turn lights and running lights still work. Dash lights glitch slightly as well

there is a head lamp switch mounted to the steering column. it has died. to access it you have to remove the cover under the dash. remove the four bolts hold the steering column and let it drop down. find the switch usually behind and to the side of the ignition switch. there will be a rod giong to it from the handle. remove and replace the switch and assemble in reverse order

MY 1995 volvo has power but wont start

volvo 1995 850 glt- same problem- turn key no crank no noise.
lights on dash come on.
1.) removed battery ground wire for 2 minutes.
2.) took wire to ground and moved to back of battery and jiggled it around
3.) connected battery
4.) car starts up-
Not starter,not solenoid,not battery,not ignition switch

ANSWER-Ground wire to chasis not getting good contact- replace battery ground cabel and make a better connection to the chassis.

Hope this is it- my car has had this happen for an extended period of time- have not found complete resolution to date- Please let me know when you find a solution.-JMM
