I guess the clutch system must be a hydraulic one, check the clutch master cylinder and slave cylinder if they are functioning.
If they are thn theres a problem with the clutch pressure plate, if thts so , you will have to drop the gear box to replace it and its adviseable to replac e the pro-kit...consisting of Clutch pressure plate, clutch plate and release bearing.

I have lost all gears in my car. I heard a grinding noise then the gear shift went all floppy, but clutch seems fine. Could it be the selector cable?

It could be the cable but more likely the shift linkage. You might want to check it to make sure it is connected to the shift arm of the transmission.

Hi There.
sounds like your release bearing has either collapsed or seized, either way you will have to drop the gear box and check it out... should'nt be a problem on a 1999 fiesta. just be careful not to pop a drive shaft and lose the transmission fluic on the floor.

How do i tell if its the clutch or the clutch cable gone on a 1999 ford fiesta please

CLUTCH CABLE WILL RELEASE CLUTCH --- MACKING IT STIFF TO WORK IF SEIZED
ALSO EASY TO WORK IF BROCKEN
IF CABLE IS BROCKEN WOULD MAKE IT HARD TO SHIFT FIRST OR
REVERSE INITIALLY---- LOOKING AT RELESE BEARING COULD VOUCH FOR CABLE
CLUTCH IF WORN OUT WOULD SLIP UNDER HARD ACCELARATION AND WOULD
HAVE A BURNING SMELL TO IT (MUCH LIKE OVERHEATED BRAKES)

Clutch problems

IT might be that the pressure plate fingers broke or the cluth plate has disintegrated. You will have to take the gearbox out and inspect the clutch.

Accelerates on own

I would have them check to see if a minor clutch adjustment may remove the 1-2 grate. You might ask it the is a shift linkage lubricant to smooth out the shift as well.

Ford fiesta 2003 reverse gear sound...

if you are only having the issue in reverse that would make me lean more towards the transmission having an issue than the clutch.
