Question about Cars & Trucks

1 Answer

All of a sudden the battery on my corvette 1984 is draining when driving the car. I hocked up another battery to get me home and it drained within 20min as soon as I stopped it wouldn't start. It will jump start, but when I turned on the lights the car stalls. Any help that you can give me would be very much appreicated.

SOURCE: the battery keeps draining and

This may be over-simplified, but to find the battery drain: Remove the positive battery cable from the battery and insert an ammeter in series beween battery and cable. If something is draining the battery, it will show on the ammeter. Remove fuses one-by-one until you see a substantial reduction in the ammeter reading. That will pinpoint the circuit that is draining the battery. Then troubleshoot until you find the faulty component, wiring harness, etc. Remember there will always be a little bit of drain because of ECM, BCM, radio memory and stuff like that.

SOURCE: 04 ford freestar has p0193

I will start by saying that the battery will need to be replaced. A battery should not go dead for at least 20 minutes with every thing on. There is a 100 amp fuse that will blow if there is something drawing enough current to kill the battery in seconds. Even minutes. So that tells me that the battery is going to leave you stranded even after you get the stalling problem fixed.
P0193= Fuel rail pressure sensor circuit high input.
P0174= Too Lean on Bank 2
P0174 too lean could be a number of things. It could be that the air filter needs to be replaced. The Mass Air Flow sensor is bad. It could be a vacuum leak from a vacuum line or the intake leaking. It could be a bad O2 sensor. If it is a vacuum leak, the best fastest way to find it is to spray starting fluid around the intake and vacuum lines while the engine is running and if it revs up, that is where the vacuum leak is.
As far as the P0193 that is more than likely the fuel pressure regulator or sending unit. But with the van stalling, I would say it is the fuel pressure regulatro.

SOURCE: I have a 2004 VW Passat the engine light came on had it diagnosed the code is P0322 what does it mean and how is it fixed? Thanks

Symptoms- Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light)
- Lack/Loss of Power
- The engine may be harder to start
- The engine may stumble or stallPossible causes- Ignition/Distributor engine speed sensor harness circuit is open or shorted
- Ignition/Distributor engine speed sensor poor electrical connection
- Faulty Ignition/Distributor engine speed sensor
- Faulty Crankshaft Position sensor
- Low battery charge
- Faulty Engine Control Module (ECM)When is the code detected? The P0322 code is triggered when the Engine Control Module (ECM) detects no signal.P0322 VOLKSWAGEN DescriptionIgnition failure sensor is used to check whether the spark ignition is occurred correctly or not and also used to tachometer drive. The sensor monitors the voltage difference between a resistance which is on the battery circuit for ignition coil. When the ignition coil works properly, the electric current through the resistance is detected as voltage drop. This is confirmed for every ignition event with the crankshaft sensor and the camshaft sensor. If ECM detects a malfunction, no ignition is possible, so the engine would not start. If there is no ignition signal for a predetermined cycle for one or two ignition coils, an ignition coil circuit failure exists.

I have a 1984 corvette. If I jump it , it will start and within 10 seconds shuts off. My brother said the radio would not shut off so he pulled what he called a relay. I can not find a relay any where on...

Start with the battery and have it tested for integrity. Make sure it has good standing(12.5v) voltage and good cranking voltage(the battery voltage should not drop below 10.5 volts). If the battery drops during cranking, either the starter has an issue internally or (most likely;) the battery has a short internally and should be replaced whether it is new or not. When the power source has been deemed good, have the charging system tested for anything above 13.7 volts(these should have right around 14.5v). If this is good, let me know and we can troubleshoot elsewhere.

Interior lights on a 1984 corvette that come on by themself

hi, the first thing i would look at would be the switches inside where the hinge is on the front doors. remove one then try the car see if the light comes on if it does the same then try the other side if when you have one side out the light stays off then you will need to replace the switch that is causing the problem.
Failing this you need to look at the one for the back doors and boot if you have these that is.
Failing them then the only other option would be to look at the main light switch inside the car their is no real way of testing this but replacing with second hand part will save you money its not worth buying new incase that isnt the cause of the problem.

So look at front door switched first then back then the boot if you have switches located on these parts.

Let me know how you get on or if you need further assistance ok

Battery drains in my 1984 BMW 318i

I have the same car I had the same problem. If you have the correct battery for your car with the same problem you have a short or positive ground in your dash/electric fuel pump/fuse box also be carefull of how you take the key from the ignition and if they're old replace them.

1998 Corvette drains the battery in less than 2 days.

No, corrosion will not cause a battery to drain, even if the corrosion is on the terminals. Several factors can cause battery drain, I would first have the battery tested to see if the battery it self is not bad. If the battery is good, then the most common is a short. All most all new cars have a certain amount of drain,(measured in milivolts) this drain is for clocks and computer memory's, and it would take several days of a vehicle sitting for the battery to be drained. Don't immediately assume you have a problem if you see 2-6 milivolts of drain on a battery with the key out, now if your battery is being drained after being parked over night, you have a problem. The easiest way to pin down the problem short is to disconnect your positive battery cable from the battery, take a 12 volt test light and clamp one end to the positive cable, and hold the probe to the positive post. Now if you have a short the light will come on. Have someone help you by pulling the fuses one at a time. If when a fuse is pulled the light goes out you have isolated the short to that system. If you pulled all the fuses and the light never went out try disconnecting all the wires from the alternator, 9 times outta 10 do this will let you know where your short is. If the system is not critical like power locks some people just leave the fuse out.
