Replace fuel pressure regulator on 96 caprice

I have new regulator with one o- ring on the fuel rail side. Question 1, is there an o-ring on the return line? Would like to know before teardown. Question 2, says "remove fuel rail". I have full set of o-rings for injectors, but after looking, dont see the need to remove fuel rail, is there a reason for this step? Doing this repair before a 2400 mile round trip and this is a last min. Repair, otherwise I would follow procedure. Btw 4.3 96 classic MFI. THANKS

Have you checked the fuel pressure? If it is high and fuel is not returning, the regulator is bad. If it is low and fuel is not returning, the pump is bad.

SOURCE: Fuel injectors leak at fuel rail

Get some new O-rings, and this time put oil on them before you insert them into the fuel rail. The regulator is alright.The problem is that the o-rings can roll up, or twist when push em in dry. Had this problem once, easy fix, but was frustrating.

I have seen 2 reasons they will seep. Orings not seating and the hold down just a little bent.Are the orings specifically for these injectors and have you tried using some silicon lubricant not adhesive to hold lower oring in place and to lubricate the upper oring that is actually the outer seal?

- Ignition Coil F Primary/Secondary Circuit Malfunction
The ignition signal from the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) or Electronic Control Module(ECM) is sent to and amplified by the power transistor. The power transistor turns ON and OFF the ignition coil primary circuit. This ON/OFF operation induces the proper high voltage in the coil secondary circuit.

Symptoms
- Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light)
- Lack/Loss of Power
- The engine may be harder to start
- Engine hesitation

Possible Causes:
- Open or short in the ignition coil circuit
- Ignition coil circuit shorted to ground
- Ignition coil connector
- Damaged ignition coil
- Damaged PCM or ECM

- If damage, repair ignition coil circuit
- Replaced ignition coil

P0152 - O2 Sensor Circuit High Voltage (Bank 2 Sensor 1)
The heated oxygen sensor 1 is placed into the exhaust manifold. It detects the amount of oxygen in the exhaust gas compared to the outside air. The heated oxygen sensor 1 has a closed-end tube made of ceramic zirconia. The zirconia generates voltage from approximately 1V in richer conditions to 0V in leaner conditions. The heated oxygen sensor 1 signal is sent to the ECM. The ECM adjusts the injection pulse duration to achieve the ideal air-fuel ratio. The ideal air-fuel ratio occurs near the radical change from 1V to 0V.

Symptoms:
- Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light)
- High Fuel Consumption
- Excessive Smoke from Exhaust

Possible Causes:
- Harness or connectors (The heated oxygen sensor 1 heater circuit is open or shorted.)
- Front Heater oxygen sensor heater (Bank 2) may be faulty

Possible Solution:
Replacing the O2 Sensor 1 usually takes care of the problem

P0174 - Fuel Injection System Too Lean Bank 2
With the Air/Fuel Mixture Ratio Self-Learning Control, the actual mixture ratio can be brought closely to the theoretical mixture ratio based on the mixture ratio feedback signal from the heated oxygen sensors 1. The ECM calculates the necessary compensation to correct the offset between the actual and the theoretical ratios.

In case the amount of the compensation value is extremely large (The actual mixture ratio is too lean.), the ECM judges the condition as the fuel injection system malfunction and light up the MIL (2 trip detection logic).

Symptoms:
- Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light)
- Excessive Fuel Consumption

Possible Causes:
- Intake air leaks
- Front Heated oxygen sensor may be faulty
- Injectors may be faulty
- Exhaust gas leaks
- Incorrect fuel pressure
- Lack of fuel
- Mass air flow sensor may be faulty
- Incorrect PCV hose connection

Possible Solution:
Dirty air filter of faulty air flow sensor are common causes of the problem.

P2197 - DODGE - Sys Too Rich at Hier Load Bank1
Means that the O2 sensors on each bank are seeing WAY too much oxygen in the exhaust gas. In normal operation the signal from the O2 sensors should swing back and forth between rich and lean. Your sensors are locked on lean.

Those codes are the same as P0174 (and P0171). Sounds like you have a vacuum leak somewhere. Most common place is the PCV elbow where it connects to the throttle body adapter.

1995 isuzu pickup wont start sometimes


Fuel Pressure Regulator is located on the fuel rail.


1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

2. Properly relieve the fuel system pressure.

3. Remove the air cleaner outlet tube(s).

4. Remove any necessary components to access the pressure regulator.

5. Disconnect the vacuum hose from the pressure regulator.

6. Remove the pressure regulator attaching screws.

7. Remove the pressure regulator from the fuel rail.

To Install

8. Discard the O-rings on the pressure regulator and replace them with new ones.

9. Lubricate the O-rings with clean engine oil.

10. Install the regulator into the fuel rail and tighten the retaining screws.

11. Connect the vacuum hose to the regulator.

12. Install any components removed to access the regulator.

13. Install the air cleaner outlet tube(s).

14. Connect the negative battery cable.

Check this procedure to removal and installing Fuel Pressure Regulator...

  1. Remove the throttle body assembly from the vehicle as outlined in this section.
WARNING To prevent spring pressure release, hold the regulator housing against the throttle body while removing the mounting screws.
  1. Remove the three retaining screws that hold the pressure regulator to the fuel body.
  2. Disassemble the pressure regulator assembly. Note the location of the components for reassembly. Discard the gasket.

To install:
  1. Install a new gasket and the regulator assembly. Tighten the three retaining screws.
  2. Install the throttle body assembly as outlined in this section.

WARNING The pressure regulator diaphragm MUST be installed with the vent hole aligned with the vent holes in the throttle body and regulator housing!

Fuel Pressure Regulator - REMOVAL & INSTALLATION(see Figures 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6)
  1. Relieve fuel system pressure. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Clean dirt and grease from the regulator retaining ring.
  3. If equipped with a bolt on-type pressure regulator, remove the fuel return line from the return tube by squeezing the tab and pulling it off.
  4. Disconnect the vacuum line from the regulator.
  5. If equipped with a bolt on-type regulator, perform the following:
    1. Remove the regulator attaching bolt(s)/screw(s) from the bracket.

  1. If equipped with a snapring-type regulator, perform the following:
    1. Remove the snapring from the regulator.
  2. Wrap a towel around the regulator to catch any fuel that may escape. Remove the regulator from the fuel rail using a twisting and pulling motion.

  1. If equipped with a bolt on-type pressure regulator, disconnect the fuel return tube assembly from the pressure regulator.
  2. Cover all openings with masking tape to prevent dirt entry. If the regulator is being reused, inspect the filter screen, if equipped, for contamination. If contamination exists, replace the filter screen

  1. If further disassembly is necessary, perform the following:
    1. Remove the small regulator O-ring.
    2. Remove the regulator filter screen.
    3. Remove the large regulator O-ring.
    4. Remove the O-ring back-up.

  1. If the regulator was disassembled, perform the following:
Lubricate all O-rings with clean engine oil prior to assembly.
    1. Install a new regulator O-ring back-up and large O-ring.
    2. Install the regulator filter screen.
    3. Install the small regulator O-ring.

  1. If the regulator is not being replaced with a new one, lubricate new O-rings with clean engine oil, then position them on the old regulator.

  1. If necessary, connect the fuel return tube to the pressure regulator and secure with the retaining nut. Tighten the nut to 13 ft. lbs. (17 Nm).
  2. Install the regulator into the regulator housing and seat with even pressure.
    1. Install the snapring or retaining bolt(s)/screw(s), as applicable.
  3. Attach the vacuum line to the regulator.
  4. If removed, connect the fuel return tube to the pressure regulator.
  5. Connect the negative battery cable.
  6. Turn the ignition switch ON and OFF to allow fuel pressure back into system. Check for leaks.

How to replace fuel pressure regulating valve


1991-94 Models - REMOVAL & INSTALLATION
  1. Remove the air intake tube and resonator assembly.
  2. Properly relieve the fuel system pressure.
  3. Remove the bolts from the fuel line clip.
  4. Using a 15 / 16 in. (24mm) backup wrench to prevent damage to the inlet port and bracket, disconnect the fuel inlet and return lines from the pressure regulator/fuel rail assembly.
If difficulty is encountered accessing the fuel return line nut, loosen and/or remove the fuel supply and rail attachment fasteners.
  1. Disengage the fuel pressure regulator vacuum hose.

  1. Remove the regulator assembly attaching screw, then remove the regulator assembly. Plug the regulator port in the fuel rail with a clean rag to prevent system contamination.

  1. Do not remove the O-ring from the retainer in the pressure regulator fuel outlet, unless it is damaged and requires replacing. Always remove and discard the O-ring from the fuel inlet.
To install:
  1. Lubricate the new fuel inlet O-ring and, if necessary, the new outlet O-ring with clean engine oil, then install the O-ring(s) in the pressure regulator assembly.
  2. Position the regulator assembly to the fuel rail. Coat the threads of the attaching bolt with Loctite® 242 or an equivalent threadlock, then install the bolt and tighten to 106 inch lbs. (12 Nm).
  3. Connect the fuel pressure regulator vacuum hose.
  4. Connect the fuel inlet and return lines, then tighten the lines to 133 inch lbs. (15 Nm) using a backup wrench to prevent port damage.
  5. Cycle the ignition switch to prime the fuel system, then start the engine and check for fuel leaks.
  6. Turn the ignition OFF and install the air intake tube and resonator assembly.

Im gonna rplace the fuel pressure regulator. In the haynes manuel it says that you need to remove the fuel rail. Ive asked a few people and they said they dont think it is necassary it is an 03 impala. ...


Not sure why Haynes says to do that. below is instructions from autozone.com, and none of the engines require the fuel rail to come off. That said, if you have the 3.4, you may need to pull the upper intake manifold.


Removal & Installation The need to work as cleanly as possible cannot be over-emphasized. Even the smallest amount of dirt, if allowed into the fuel pressure regulator and/or the fuel rail, will find its way to the fuel injectors. The nozzle openings of the injectors are very small. Keep hands and tools clean. Clean the areas to be disconnected with a suitable solvent. Carefully cover open fittings and connections to keep out foreign material. Dirt in the injectors almost guarantees a clogged fuel injector and engine performance problems.

3.4L (VIN E) Engines

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Relieve the fuel system pressure.
  3. Remove the upper intake manifold assembly.
  4. Disconnect the vacuum line from the pressure regulator.
  5. Remove the regulator retaining screw and remove the retainer bracket. Using a clean shop cloth to catch fuel spillage, carefully pull the regulator from the fuel rail. Twist the regulator slightly while removing to ease removal. Discard the O-ring.

To install:
  1. Clean all parts well. DO NOT use shop compressed air to test or clean a fuel pressure regulator. Clean the fuel pressure regulator screen, if necessary. DO NOT immerse the fuel pressure regulator in a solvent bath or it will be damaged.
  2. If the filter screen has been contaminated, it should be removed and the pressure regulator replaced.
  3. Lubricate a new pressure regulator O-ring with clean engine oil and install on the regulator inlet.
  4. Install the fuel return pipe to the regulator.
  5. Install a new retainer and spacer bracket into the slot on the fuel rail and install the pressure regulator to the fuel rail. Tighten the fuel return line nut to 13 ft. lbs. (17 Nm).
  6. Connect the vacuum line to the pressure regulator and install the retainer screw. Tighten to 76 inch lbs. (8.5 Nm).
  7. Inspect and verify that the retainer and spacer bracket is engaged in the slots in the fuel rail. Grasp and pull on the regulator to ensure that it is properly seated.
  8. Install the upper intake manifold.
  9. Connect the negative battery cable.
  10. Inspect for leaks using the following procedure:
    1. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position for 2 seconds.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position for 10 seconds.
    3. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position again.
    4. Inspect all areas for fuel leaks.

3.8L Engines
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Relieve the fuel system pressure.
  3. Clean any dirt from the fuel pressure regulator retaining ring.
  4. Remove the vacuum hose from the pressure regulator.
  5. Remove the snaprings. Twist the regulator slightly and pull the pressure regulator from the fuel rail. Use a shop towel to catch fuel spillage as the regulator is removed.
  6. Remove the O-rings and O-ring back-up.

To install:
  1. Clean all parts well. DO NOT use shop compressed air to test or clean a fuel pressure regulator. Clean the fuel pressure regulator screen, if necessary. DO NOT immerse the fuel pressure regulator in a solvent bath or it will be damaged.

Gas line leaking by engine how do repair that?


Where is it leaking? If its at the fuel rail fuel pressure regulator you may need a new regulator if leaking on the metal part. If its leaking at the rail side its just the "O" ring. Relieve fuel pressure(push in valve under plastic cap right side beside alternator on rail. Remove the torx screw holding regulator bracket. Pry out and replace "O" ring, reassemble. If its not the regulator it may be a fuel injector, you need to remove the fuel rail and replace both the upper and lower injector "O" rings. This however needs the intake manifold removed to repair.

Replacing the fuel pressure regulator, involves just replacing the regulator at the end of the fuel rail in the engine compartment, but fuel pressure sensor - does this mini-van have a fuel pressure sensor?
replacing the fuel pressure regulator: (1) locate it at the end of the fuel rail in the engine compartment,
(2) relieve fuel system pressure (3) disconnect fuel pressure regulator vacuum line. (4) remove fuel pressure regulator retaining screw (retain for re-use (5) using a shop towel to catch spilled fuel, lift & twist Fuel pressure regulator to remove it from the fuel rail. (6) remove/discard retainer and spacer bracket from the fuel rail. (7) remove fuel pressure regulator from the engine fuel return pipe. (8) remove/discard Fuel Pressure Regulator inlet O-ring (9) Check Fuel Pressure Regulator filter screen for contamination - if contaminated, replace Fuel Pressure Regulator. (10) Lubricate new Fuel Pressure Regulator inlet O-ring with clean engine oil & install onto the Fuel Pressure Regulator inlet. (11) Install the fuel return pipe onto the Fuel Pressure regulator (12) Install new retainer & spacer bracket into the slot on the fuel rail.
(13) Install Fuel Pressure Regulator onto Fuel Rail & tighten Engine Fuel Return Pipe nut to 13 ft-lbs (17 Nm). (14) connect Fuel Pressure Regulator vacuum line, (15) Install Fuel Pressure Regulator attachng screw & tighten to 76 in-lbs (8.5 Nm). (16) Inspect & verify that retainer & spacer bracket is engaged in the slots on the fuel rail. Grasp & pull on the Fuel Pressure Regulator.
to ensure that the Fuel Pressure Regulator is properly seated. (17) inspect for fuel leaks with this
procedure: On 2sec,(holy rollers), off 10sec will be left on, inspect for leaks while running.

Removal & Installation of fuel Regulators on
4.8L, 5.3L & 6.0L Engine To Remove:
CAUTION
Three styles of fuel pressure regulators and fuel rails will be used in this model year. Each regulator has a different "footprint" that consequently changes the size of the receiving port in the fuel rail. The regulator retaining clips are specific to each rail-regulator design and cannot be interchanged.

  1. Remove the engine sight shield.
  2. Relieve the fuel system pressure. Refer to Fuel Pressure Relief Procedure.
  3. Clean the fuel pressure regulator retainer and the surrounding area.
  4. Remove or disconnect the following:
    • Fuel pressure regulator vacuum line.
    • Fuel pressure regulator retainer.
    • Fuel pressure regulator.
  5. Remove the following parts from the fuel rail:
    • Backup ring (10)
    • Regulator Seal O-ring (11)
    • Regulator filter (12)
    • Regulator seal O-ring (13)
To Install:

  1. Make sure the NEW fuel pressure regulator retainer is the right one.
  2. The tabs (1) are used on the straight vacuum port retainer (2), and the E85-straight vacuum port retainer (3).

  4. Install the following parts onto the fuel pressure regulator (9).
    • Backup ring (10)
    • Regulator seal O-ring (11)
    • Regulator filter (12)
    • Regulator seal O-ring (13)
  5. Lubricate the fuel pressure regulator O-rings with clean oil.
  6. Install the fuel pressure regulator and retainer. CAUTION
    Whenever the fuel pressure regulator is removed from the fuel rail NEW O-rings and a NEW retaining clip should be used on reinstallation.
  7. Connect the vacuum line.
  8. Tighten the fuel filler cap.
  9. Use the following to inspect for leaks:
    • Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF, for 2 seconds.
    • Turn OFF the ignition for 10 seconds.
    • Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
    • Install the engine sight shield.
8.1L Engine To Remove:

  1. Before servicing the vehicle refer to the precautions at the beginning of thjs section
  2. Remove the fuel injector sight shield as needed
  3. Relieve fuel system pressure (See: Fuel Pressure Relieving)

  5. Clean any dirt from the fuel pressure regulator retainer and the surrounding area
  6. Remove the fuel pressure regulator retainer (I)

    • Backup ring (J) on the fuel pressure regulator (H)

  2. Lubricate the fuel pressure regulator large O-Ring and the small O-Ring with clean engine oil
  3. Push the fuel pressure regulator onto the regulator housing on the fuel rail
  4. Install a new fuel pressure regulator retainer (I)
  5. Install or connect the following:
    • Fuel pressure regulator vacuum line
    • Negative battery cable
  6. Tighten the fuel filler cap
  7. Inspect for leaks using the following procedure:
    • Turn on the ignition with the engine off for two seconds
    • Turn off the ignition for 10 seconds
    • Turn on the ignition with the engine off
    • Inspect for fuel leaks
  8. Install the fuel injector sight shield
  9. Road test the vehicle to check performance

How do i put fuel pressure regulator in my 1994 BMW 325i


Fuel pressure regulator is located on the fuel rail. 1. Remove top engine covers and fuel rail mounting bolts. 2. Disconnect vacuum hose. 3. Remove regulator clamp, noting position of regulator. 4. Pull regulator out with shop towel (full of fuel) don't lose thrust washer behind. 5. Replace with new O-rings.

Need to replace fuel regulator on 96 chevy c1500


the regulator is part of the injector block. You will need to pull the upper plenume to gain acess to it.
