SOURCE: Failed smog

We had to have the calatic converter replaced. We did this after doing an oil change, air filter change, and new spark plugs and still hadn't passed smog. After changing the calatic converter it passed smog with scores of 25.

I rebuilt the TBI, Changed every sensor in the truck and replaced the heads. I still cannot pass the CA smog test

Check everything that is connected to a vacuum line, check the CAT and the injectors and last run a compression test.

I don't know what the standard is for your state, but that doesn't
sound bad at all, for a 1994 spec vehicle.

How would they know timing was an issue?

I suggest your exhaust converter is worn out
May need a clean air filter
New O2 Sensor

Assume spark plugs aren't too old &
no ignition misfires?

Egr Valve ?

Need 92 toyota paseo to pass CA smog test ! What causes too high HC in smog test????

High HC means moisture in the system. Try driving it longer then take it to the smog shop. Otherwise it could be hard like a head gasket or easy such as a PCV not functioning. Any ways you should always drive it about 20 miles before smog check, longer when the weather is cold.

High nox fail smog test any remedies? 99

NOX is created when the internal combustion temperature gets to high. The egr system uses burnt exhaust gases to line to cylinder walls. The purpose of this is decrease internal combustion temperature therefore reducing the amount of NOX created.Would look to a possible egr malfunction usually they will trigger the check engine light but not always. The 4.3L has been known to have issues with carbon buil up in the egr and the egr pintle not open and closing properly.

Possible carbon build up need to clean system depends on your mileage and condition of your engine watch also for possible bit of overheating during testing look for vacuun leaks.
