SOURCE: bmw x5 brake lights wont work

remove inoperative brake light bulb socket and look closley where the socket contacts the aluminum tail light housing, there could be a burn mark which would cause the light to not work, also check the connection at the plug as water damage may have cause rust, those are the most common problems, a tail light brand new would cost about 400 canadian but you maybe able to find a good used one

My 2009 BMW 328i has a light on that represents exterior lighting failure, but it seems that all the lights are working properly, how do I turn off this light?

It may actually be the case that one of your rear brake lights is out and you haven't noticed it; it's a subtle difference on the 2009 328i. Compare the brake lights in the photo attached. 2_24_2013_11_29_14_pm.pngI'd check for this before disconnecting the battery or taking it to the dealer.

I have a 97 328i. currently the brakes lights are not working, so I changed the brake light switch and that didn't do it then I cleaned the bulb connections and still no dice. I'm going to check fuses now...

Pretty much the fuses. BMW runs "home runs" to each light and has a fuse to protect it. On the E36 models there was a problem with the wire harness where it comes into the truck. The harness gets work and may cause a short. I would inspect the harness in the trunk area as well as taking care of the fuses.

Check the blown wire on the plug connection of the tail lights. They usualy burn. Then you just have to cut is off and give it an earth on the light circuit board.

Key wont lock doors. Cannot lock doors from inside car either.

hey doug, if you have excessive resistance in the brake circuit the warning will come on. I would first check the brake light sockets and bulbs to make sure they are not corroded or the bulb turned dark. If they are ok, then I would replace the brake light switch located above the brake pedal. you will have to remove the driver's lower trim cover to access the brake light switch.the circuit is seperate from the central lock system.

1996 328i lights not working

Do you have to pull something to turn on your headlight?
If yes, then don't pull it all the way back. You can pull that thing three time.
first pull will make you speedometer and all other things glow
second pull will turn on the HEADLIGHT
and the last (i.e. the third pull) will make your High Beam turn on
Hope this help, I have a 1996 BMW too.
