SOURCE: vss vehicle speed sensor

Access is easiest from below. on the manual transmission you will have to jack up and support the car, remove the left front wheel and wheel arch liner. the sensor is located next to the right hand drive shaft at the rear of the transmission. disconnect the wiring plug from the top of sensor, pull out retaining pin, noting how it is fitted, pull sensor out and recover O-ring seal if damaged replace with new. watch out for a little oil spillage . fitting is reversal of removal

SOURCE: 1996 nissan sentra check engine light keeps coming

Anytime a code is set it does not necessarily mean that that part is defective that the code refers to. The code only means that part is being effected. As you have seen, replacing that part may or may not solve the problem. A good technician can determine what is causing the problem based on the code and other factors. Do not throw any more parts at the problem. Have it diagnosed by a professional who knows what they are doing.

Someter dosnt work code p0500 when code cleared eng light comes on as vehicle shifts into 2nd everytime same code reoccures

code p 0500 refers to vehicle speed sensor(VSS)--circuit malfunction===causes --wiring--VSS --- ECM
engine lights report on both engine problems and transmission problems
check all wiring connections to the transmission
the VSS reports to the transmission control module, the road speed and that is when the TCM knows when to change ratios
At this point I would be closely checking the wires and harness connections and then replace the VSS

Ihave nissan quest 2005,have code p0500,but this transmission have two sensors,Im no sure what the speed sensor

code p 0500 refers to vehicle speed sensor(VSS)--circuit malfunction===causes --wiring VSS---ECM
it has only one VSS and if the wiring is good with good connections replace it
there are other sensors in the transmission so don't confuse them with a VSS

I have a p0501 vss sensor error. I've replaced the part, but the engine light will not go off. it's been reset, but it comes right back on after 5 to 10 miles. I have a 2001 kia rio.

for the p0501,
Causes:
P0501 DTC trouble code may be caused by one or more of the following:
The Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) is not reading (functioning) properly
There is a broken/frayed wire leading to the vehicle speed sensor
The vehicle's PCM is not correctly configured for the actual tire size on the vehicle

Possible Solutions:
The simplest thing to do is to reset the code and see if it comes back.
Next, check all wiring and connectors that lead to the speed sensor. The location of the sensor depends on your vehicle. The sensor could be on the rear axle, transmission, or perhaps the wheel hub (brake) assembly.
If the wiring and connectors are OK, then check the voltage at the speed sensor. Again, the exact procedure wil depend on your make and model of vehicle.
If everything looks OK, replace the sensor.
hope help.

My check engie light came on then about a week or so later my speedometer stopped working on my 2000 ford ecsort

The Vehicle Speed Sensor is what tells the Speedometer how fast you are going. Have your check engine light scanned for the code that is set. Replace the Vehicle Speed Sensor if necessary.

Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS)
Removal
  1. Raise and support the vehicle.
  2. Disconnect the vehicle speed sensor (VSS) electrical connector.
  3. Unclip the heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) wire clip from the VSS bracket.
  4. Remove the VSS retaining bolt.
  5. Remove the VSS.
Installation
  1. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
