SOURCE: troubleshooting air conditioner thermostat 1995 nissan pickup hardbody

The thermostat is located where the lower radiator hose goes into the engine. I've had to replace mine, and it took a while to find it. I found the easiest way to get at it is to remove the power steering pump (hoses attached) and set it over to the side to get at the bolts on the thermostat housing.

Good luck!

SOURCE: Reverse gear has grinding noise...?

Have them flush the fluid out under warranty and put in new fluid, and have them bleed the clutch lines in case air is getting in there. Audi and VW claim lifetime transmission fluid but it's BS - I've changed relatively low mile fluid from these cars and it was horrendous. It's possible that the fluid itself is causing trouble, but it's more likely that it is a synchro problem. If it was a clutch issue, you should have problems with more than just reverse gear - a clutch simply engages and disengages the engine and transmission, regardless of which gear it is. The problem (if not fixed by fluid) is in the transmission, and being under warranty, don't accept another "suggestion" like they're giving you. Changing your clutch isn't gonna do it.

SOURCE: 1995 Nissan XE Pickup Transmission Problems-PLEASE HELP

your luck as with mine is not good. thought I had a bad bearing, after droping the tranny and seperating the housing, I have a broken counter shaft. after looking for another with no luck, the tranny shop informed me that was common for these transmissions. parts are expensive, to rebuild would cost aprox.$800.00 or more. the main cause is the front bearing is supported in alum. causing shaft to move which first takes out the bearing, then the strain snaps the shaft. taking out all gears except 4th and only moves while in 4 wheel drive.

1995 Nissan pickup with automatic transmission, when I start it it makes a loud gear rubbing noise coming from the flywheel area. Any ideas? Had the starter checked it's still good.

when you had the starter out, did you inspect the flywheel itself? the starter can be engaging but the flywheel can have some wear so that a grinding noise will be heard

I have a 1994 Nissan pickup. v6 manual trans. I get a loud hum as I drive. But when I press the clutch in, the hum stops. release clutch and hum starts. Could this be the Clutch fan?

No, By pushing in the clutch to stop the hum all you are stopping from turning is the transmission and ( transfur case if 4 wheel drive ) the engine is still running ..and some parts in the rear differential . I have had 4 nissan pickups and currently drive a 1995 pickup, without actually hearing the noise I would look toward the transmission, these Manual transmissions are very prone to bearing failure. This has happened to 2 of the one's I have had including the one I have now. You can also see as time goes by if the noise is quieter in fourth gear than others because this is direct drive and not as many trans bearings are involved Good Luck

I have a 1995 nissan pickup the transmission have a metal to metal. 5 sp manual 4th gear is but all other are ruff, with u let out on the clutch.

A lack of gear oil in the transfer case or gear box will make shifting and gears become ruff then destroyed within a few hundered miles, sometimes much much less. Unless this truck has had a history of bad shifting technique I have found these trucks and gears to be extremely reliable. If the clutch makes a loud wirring noise when engaged and disengaged ther may be a bearing problem. Check the U joints in the driveline. Bad U joints would usualy result in a lot of gear box twisting and jerking when starting out but diminishes with speed.

Grinding in first and second gear

There are synchronizer rings on the mainshaft between the synchro hub and the gears. These rings help in meshing the gears so they don't 'grind' when shifting.

I think whoever rebuilt your transmission needs to fix it. It sounds like the synchronizer rings were left out, or possibly there is not enough allowance for the synchronizers to rotate freely -- the axial 'play' when they build up the gearsets on the mainshaft.

Whining noise when engaging 1st or reverse.

i had a nissan pickup that would whine in all gears except 4th...it started out with 1st then reverse then went to the rest...solution was new transmission...or rebuild cause the syncronizers or the gears them selves are being chewed up...the new transmission was cheaper then a rebuild. or take it to somewhere that will do free diag on the transmission.

MY 1997 NISSAN XE 2.4 LITER, 4 CYLINDER, 5-SPEED STANDARD 2WD TRUCK WILL NOT GO IN REVERSE WITH VEHICLE BEING STILL WITHOUT KNOCKING IT IN GREAR WITH YOUR FIST BUT IT WILL GO IN GEAR IF YOU ARE COASTING...

With the vehicle sitting still, ease the clutch out just a little bit while trying to engage reverse. If it pops in, even with a little grinding, it seems the bearings on the counter shaft may be a little stiff. Have you checked the level of the gear lube in the transmission?
