Have you done a compression check? I had the same problem on an S-10 Chevy pick up. Found that # 3 cylinder had low compression due to a burnt exhaust valve. No more problems after having valve job done on the engine.

Misfire #8 cylinder

this has individual coils for each cylinder, correct? Why not check for spark out the number 8 coil. if there is no spark swap it with another coil. If there is still no spark out the coil than the coil is bad. If the coil starts to work in the swapped coil location and the swap coil will not work in the number 8 position than there is a problem the either the wiring or the PCM.

Engine problem

Probably a head gasket problem,once again. It's burning the coolant off the plug . To make sure ,use a "block tester" from NAPA ,it is a liquid that changes color with the presence of exhaust gas in the coolant.

I have a randome misfire code and a misfire on number 7 sylinder.The engine runs ruf and respones as if there is to much fuil going to the engine. I have replased the spark plugs and the entire number one...

probably camhead gasket went, it can give a misfire as well, so spark plug at cylinder 7 should be wet, there also has to be white smoke like steam coming from tail pipe even when engine is hot and water dripping

Sounds like you may have a bad head gasket you will need to take it in for repair.

2000 lincoln ls misfire

In my experience the most common reasons for a misfire diagnostic trouble code (DTC) for a specific cylinder like P0306 which I am guessing is the DTC you recieved without have any other DTC's like a P0300 (random multiple misfire) is either the coil or the injector. There is always the chance you have a faulty connector at either the injector or the coil. It kind of hard to help you completely as I need to ask you a few questions in order to go further. Here are the first set of questions. After you clear the code, does it pretty much come right back ? I know the spark plugs are new but have you looked at the spark plug in cylinder number 6 ? Is it wet or black due to fuel ? I understand you are able to pull DTC's but are you able to look at any freeze frame data with the scanner you are using ? You can reply/comment here or email me directly at and maybe we can work through this without having to replace a bunch of parts that don't need replacing. One thing you may want to try which can be a little bit of a pain with the injector but if it is a hard code or a code that comes back quickly after clearing the DTC but you may want to swap the injector (since you already replaced the coil) with an injector from another cylinder. If you recieve a new DTC for a misfire in the cylinder you put the injector that was originally in the number 6 position then more than liklely it's the injector that's faulty. Injectors can get dirty and kind of stick open and drip fuel when it should be off/closed. This will also cause a wet or black spark plug in that cylinder. Yes vacuum leaks and fuel pressure can cause this by the way but in most cases you will also get a P0300 as well.

#1 plug is miss-firing.I have replaced plug and wire,but keeps miss-firing only on#1 plug.have been told that coolant is possibly getting in #1cylinder.also I have been told #1 coil could be bad.witch is...

Could only be a few things. The coil #1, Fuel injector #1, Stuck intake or exhaust valve, or blown head gasket allowing coolant into cylinder #1. Use a spark tester to check the spark coming out of cylindr #1 if checks good then ohm test the injector when it is warm. Check other injectors to compare. Do a compression test on cylinder #1 and test other cylinders to compare. If cylinder is low compression suspect valves and or head gasket. If compression is low then het a leak down tester to test if a valve is broke or sticking. On your sable i would suspect injector or coil most likely.

On my 2005 Lincoln Navigattor the computer says that the number 8 plug is misfiring. which is number 8 and how dificult is it to replace the coil pack?

I believe number eight is on the drivers side in the back. coil packs on these are easy to change outit takes an eight mm socket, one bolt. but befor you buy a new coil, try unplugging the connector and plugging it back in, corrosion on the leads can cause a misfire. also if you can use a ohm meter you can check the resistance of the coil. check between the two leads and the wire where the spark plug goes. reading should be around 5.6 ohm's

The #8 coil and spark plug are located on the drivers side rear of the engine. You will need a 7mm socket to remove the bolt that holds the coil down. After the bolt is out, pull the coil upwards and remove. Next you will need a 9/16" spark plug socket to remove the spark plug which is located in the hole that the coil came out of. The spark plugs in a 5.4L engine are sometimes frozen into the engine. If it is very hard to turn the plug, try spraying some WD-40 down the hole onto the plug and let it soak in for a while. Do not try to force the plug to turn, it will break and a special plug extractor will be needed to remove it.

I have a 2006 F150 with a 5.4. I have a engine

First remove spark plug. #8 plug is, if sitting in truck, left rear plug. Have someone crank engine while you hold spark plug, connected to plug wire, ground plug to ground. Check spark. If no spark, remove plug wire from coil, connect test light from coil to ground, see if you get spark, if no spark replace coil. Leave cylinder #8 open to air to dry any unburnt fuel in cylinder.
