SOURCE: Put new (rebuilt) starter on last weekend, this

Bummer. Sometimes rebuilt starters are not actually rebuilt, but repaired. this means they fixed the issue, but did not replace bushings, brushes, etc...

try hooking up a wire to the actuater terminal of the starter (usually the small one at 2 o'clock position) and connect test light to it an ground the test light. Run this wire inside the cab so you can see it...When you turn to start, this light should light. Run vehicle until problem happens again and if the light illuminates, the focus is the starter, if it does not, you need to look at the entire circuit. Look carefully at neutral safety switch and connections..

Check to see that the torque converter is bolted to the flywheel or flex-plate.

If everything went back together smooth, you may have gotten a bad transmission. You will probably have to pull it back off and check your work.

1992 Toyota Camry won't crank

Check the ground cable going from the battery to
alternator, then to chassis. Make sure there is no
rust at the chassis ground wire terminal, and that it
is very tight. The fusible link will be off the alternator
red power cable, usually, but not 100% on that car.
Good luck.

Have a 96 Corolla- won't start- just one click- have replace battery and cable connections are good. am thinking it's the starter cell gone bad...is this correct?

Most likely. If you are sure all connections are good at the new battery and alternator then it is either a bad starter or a bad fuel pump relay. To check the relay get under the back end of the car and have someone turn on the key, if you hear a
"humming" noise, then I would replace the starter.

If you can hear a relay clicking, then your starter relay should be OK. Try tapping the starter solenoid (on the starter) with a hammer while someone cranks the ignition over. Sometimes it'll get jammed or stuck and won't start the car. Try that out - if it works, then you may need to overhaul or replace your starter.

try ecm
added by a91rsinvegas: check the other fuel pump fuse, small black box near the battery connected by and orange wire. Fuse is inside the box.

You'll also want to check the relay. Just because it's new doesn't neccesarily mean it's working. The fuse is an easy fix but not always the problem. Feel the relay while you have someone else turn the car on (not crank) you should feel the relay click to prime the fuel pump. If it doesn't click. The relay isn't coming on. Have your relay checked to make sure it's good. It's not impossible to get a bum part from a parts store, especially if it's autozone or advanced auto parts. They have given me two bad relays, one bad fuel pump, 3 bad alternators and 2 bad O2 sensors. If the relay checks out good, there is a wire going to the relay that should be consistent. Usually orange or red. Check that wire for voltage with the car off, if it isn't getting any, then your problems lies in the wiring, connector, or another problem entirely.
