Bmw e38 engine whistle noise

Sounds like a vacuum leak has developed in the intake system. While the engine is whistling, using a spray bottle with water and on the mist setting, spray along the intake manifold area and vacuum hoses to locate a possible leak.

Start the car, open the hood, remove the oil filler cap off the valve cover, if the noise goes away, the problem is in the "positive crankcase ventilation" system (blown diaphragm).

A whistling noise can be generated by an alternator at high RPM's and indicates a slip ring brush problem or a diode failing . It resembles a frequency whistle.. IT may also be from a leaking gasket and a partially blocked exhaust system from a failed cat converter and at speed and power, the exhaust gas is forced out the hole

a whistling noise will be a vacuum leak from some point. The Escapes are known for having vacuum issues in the rear of the engine due heat caused from the motor. The lines dry and crack out.

hi ,,two things 1- water pump. but most likely check your pulleys they will make that high pitch noise one of them fixing to go bad and what will happen the belt will jam and jump lose and will lose all power ,,cause you have one belt for alt and the water pump mostly its the pulley right under the alt ,,hope this will help ....Joe

Did you check to make sure all of your spark plugs are in their holes?

There is a seal where the rod from the booster connects to the foot pedal that is probably leaking

bearing in the a-c ,sounds like it needs a new 1 .not a easy fix

Troublkeshoot possible noisy idler pulleys, if they are OK, remove the plastic cobers & check for a noisy timing belt tensioner pulley. Water pumps rarely "whistle"; they grind. But, if you see any evidence of leakage at the weep hole on the water pump impeller shaft, replace the pump regardless. Might as well replace the timing belt whilst you are there, too.
