1989 Toyota Land Cruiser (BJ70)

Hi, my 1989 toyota landcruiser seems to be leaking coolant from behind the water pump. It only leaks when the engine is cold. It has a 3.4litre (3B) Diesel engine. Cheers, Glenn.

Coolant leaking from behind engine block

If there is coolant hoses running back there then its either the coolant flange that distributes coolant threw the engine. or a ruptured hose, if there is no such hoses running behind then it could be a crack in the block or a bad head gasket. Just my guess, Does the engine over heat ? Hope it helps

Coolant leaking onto passenger floor well after using fan and heater.1999 Toyota Landcruiser, 6cyl petrol. Does this suggest a ruptured heater core? Will this mean getting in behind the dash?

yes and yes. sorry.
as you are probably aware of it is difficult to get to heater cores. if you are able to take it to someone that can do a pressure test on the cooling system they should be able to tell you for sure where the leak is coming from

If the cooling fans, water pump, radiator, and thermostat are all working properly and the engine is still overheating, I would take a look at something a little more simple, like a defective radiator cap. Try this inexpensive fix and see if it works. Sure hope this helps and good luck.

Losing water

If your coolant is boiling you have an over heating problem. You state the water bottle is bubbling, are you mixing the water with anti freeze? If not that might just be your problem, you need a 50/50 solution. Also make sure your radiator fan is working, you could also have a bad thermastat.
