This could be caused by several things. Bad MAF sensor, TPS could be defective. You need to have the vehicle scanned for codes. You can have this done for no charge at AutoZone.

There is a large vac line coming straight down from the throttle body that goes to the PCV system. See if it has a hole in it. It is likely sucking air.

My 2004 dodge intrepid rpm jumps and car runs sluggish and engine light is on

Jumps, could be the idle air control motor and or a dirty throttle body. Clean them up first. Running sluggish could be this also. But it could be a clogged exhaust system. Check catalytic converters. Engine light on. Check the codes. Can and will lead you in the right direction.

I have Civic 2001 with 160,000 miles on it. i have problem when i am driving on high way on 80/mph rpm stay on 2800 and after 5 minuts rpm goes to 3500 and i feel loud noise like engine is taking more...

If the car type is manual transmission:
- Perform the clutch and pressure plate test.
PROCEDURE:
- Pull up the hand brake, shift the lever to 1st gear, rev up to 2000 rpm, release the clutch pedal at once.
- If the engine does not stall, replace the clutch, pressure plate, clutch bearing, regrind the fly wheel and pressure plate precisely.
- If the engine stalls, the clutch system is OK and do not need any clutch system repairing.
- If the clutch system is OK, check vacuum leaks through intake manifold, vacuum hoses, PCV valve and throttle control cable adjustment, MAP sensor and Throttle Plate Position sensor adjustment (9.8 percent or 0 degrees at TP sensor fully closed position).

If the car type is automatic transmission:
- Check the transmission control cable adjustment.
- Check vacuum leaks through intake manifold, vacuum hoses, PCV valve and throttle control cable adjustment, MAP sensor and Throttle Plate Position sensor adjustment (9.8 percent or 0 degrees at TP sensor fully closed position).
- Check the Automatic Transmission Fluid level in the transmission with the car on level floor, engine start, gear lever in P.
If the problem persists, contact a competent technician or service personnel.

89 cutlass cierra crank but wont start when wet out unless gas pedal is pushed

This should be a drive by wire vehicle meaning it has a cable for the throttle body. First thing would be to see if any error codes can be pulled up (most parts stores will do that for free.) Drive by wire versus the late model that use electronic control for the idle have a IAC or idle air control which when first started controls the idle air intake--all air is run by it to idle the vehicle when cold--

Usual symptoms are rather high idle when cold engine or even idle and RPM jumping up and down and stalling when cold.

Another way if idle does drop when cold is tapping the gas--engine will still run until hot. Means not usually a fuel pump issue.

You could also have if the vehicle is fuel injected a dirty Mass air flow sensor, a throttle position sensor, etc.

These can be if the vehicle has them cleaned using a special zero residue spray cleaner.

First have it scanned to see what if any errors it shows--the computer.

Shifting from drive to neutral rpm remains high

Take it to a qualified repair shop , Thinking ??? Also was thinking the MAF sensor or Intake Air sensor might be faulty . TESTING IS THE WAY TO A PROPER FIX !!!!!

2005 GMC Envoy 6 cyl. 125,000 miles. Added SeaFoam fuel system cleaner to gas. Now when I slow down, the engine drops RPM to 1000, then drops to 300, jumps back up, sometimes it just dies. Once I hit...

First thing to do is clean the throttle body, make sure to clean both the front side and rear side thoroughly. Also, disconnect the battery while doing the cleaning, this will reset the computer and allow it to relearn to the newly cleaned throttle body.

Hello. i have the ff. problems with my 1994 honda accord manual: 1. the engine dash "orange" light on and cant find solution from local mechanics: 2. engine rpm is 1300 when starts and 800 rpm...

first engine light is on a reason it has a code stored needs to be read,2.sounds like it needs throttle body cleaning,and3.if clutch is hard means master clutch cyl is bad if hydraulic and if manual cable is worn.

RPM is over 400 rpm higher than it should be with no gas pedal.

Could be several things.. I would suggest replace the neutral safety switch, all O2 sensors and fuel and air filters, PVC valve and if needed plugs n wires..
The issue could also be a bad throttle body.. Should be a good idea to get it hooked up to a diagnostic machine - get the codes and then you will know more of what you are dealing with..

Have a great day !!

5 speed. When I push the clutch in to glid the car will die.

I would start with a tune up. ( plugs , wires fuel filter)
Then if this does not work , I would have the fuel pump check and the Idle air control checked.
IF there is a check engine light coming on , The throttle position sensor is most likely the cause
of failure . The throttle position sensor is part of the throttle body .
The throttle body is a very expensive repair.
Some time you can get away with a good cleaning of the throttle body.
