Just installed a 4 barrel Holley on my 1992 chevy silverado with a 4.3 liter. It runs fine till it warms up then dies. Won't start again for 30 min to an hr. Had a 4 barrel on it before and ran fine. What's the proper adjustments fir this carb?

Many of such carbs required an insulator plate under them to keep from boiling the fuel out. Check with the junkyards.

Im thinking the onboard diagnostic sys may play a role..It constantl adjusts fuel/air mix,spark adavnce/retard. air/fuel ratio..thousands of times per second..Has it been removed and nehated? If not,it is basically allowing truck to start,but with no inputs as far as fuel mixtures,mass air flow,spark/timing it is overwhelmed and conks out the engine...Have you check this..Good luck

My 95 ford f150 runs great till it warms up it seems then the fuel pump looses power n shuts down wait few mins kicks back on runs fine till few min later


Sounds like your ignition module it is common on fords to do this when its cool it will start and run fine but once it heats up the truck dies until you let it cool down again and then your up and running till it heats up again. Some modules are mounted on the fender others are mounted with the distributor have it checked and let me know how it went.

JUST REPLACED CARB ON MY 1992 CHEVY SILVERADO WITH A 4.3 LITER. NOW IT STARTS AND RUNS FINE UNTIL IT WARMS UP THEN DIES AND WONT START FOR 30 MIN


How many rpm's is it running at when you first start it up and it is running on the choke? Does it gradually start to idle back and then start to die r does it do it all of a sudden and dies?

When running with the choke on, it is on the high idle circuit of the carb, as it warms up the idle should slow down and then idle in the 800 rpm range in Park, 650 in Drive. This will be the low idle circuit range. This transition inside the carb will cover an idle air bleed hole in the venturi of the carb and lean out the mixture. If you notice that the carb smells gassy and black rich unburnt gases are coming from the tailpipe, the problem is located within the carb and requires a carb tech to do a rebuild of the carb. You could try a good carb cleaner like Lucas by putting it into the gas tank, in case you just got a bad tank of gas, but that is just a bandaid for a more deeply rooted problem. Get the carb rebuilt?

Car dies when it warms up. just replaced carb, think it has to do with this


Vapor lock again! Make sure the fuel lines are away from hot surfaces, or insulated.
Also, when it warms up, the automatic choke turns off, and the idle setting has to be set to run at that temp. There will be idle jets, maybe two, and idle stop setting for the linkage.

sounds like your coil is getting hot then when it cools down the engine re starts check coil look for hot spot or touch it see if it is hot it should be cold.

I have a 1992 gmc sonoma and it starts fine when its cold and runs good but when it warms up it dies and wont stay running and sometimes wont start till it sits for 15 20 min


sounds like a bad ignition module check for spark when it dies if you do not have spark at plugs check between coil and coil wire if still no spark most likely module it is under rear of distributer cap resembles a black wafer board with two electrical plugs

I have a 1981 ramcharger 318 4 barrel edelbrock carb. it starts fine, drives well for about 15 min but dies. dies quicker when 4 barrels kick in. about 2 min after dying it will start up fine and do it...


Those rattly noises are detonations,  caused by a very lean mixture. All the other symptoms indicate that the fuel flow to the carb is too low. Since you have replaced the pump and the filter, the only other things left to check are the lines and the tank sump. Or you could install a much larger pump.

Adjust choke assembly. Good mechanic, 5-10 min.
