SOURCE: 1995 pontiac bonneville stalls

I just went through lots of troubleshooting and expense on my 1996. Whenever I would lift my foot off the accelerator and was below about 30 mph, the rpm's would starts jumping around and sometimes it would stall. If I gave it a little gas (accelerator), I could sometimes keep it running. It also backfired once in a while. Starts right back up. Also, if I let it idle while in part, it would die after 1-2 minutes.

I ended up finding a hole in the fuel regulator. About a ~$70 part if you get an AC Delco, but very simple to change.

SOURCE: Car drives good but it died while driving

I'm leaning toward a bad crankshaft sensor. There's a couple of experienced GM guys on here, so we'll pass it by them first just to be sure.

SOURCE: car idles rough and stalls

Have you ever changed the fuel filter? If it's not that, and it's not a vacuum leak, it is probably your idle air control valve.

SOURCE: CAR WON'T STAY RUNNING

when key on and engine off, does the security light flash constantly? if so its shutting down the fuel pump, it starts momentarily due to the computer priming the engine with fuel. how to reset, turn key to run position, leave it on touch nothing, takes 10-12 minutes, start watching light around 10 minutes. it will stop flashing... turn key off, then back on and start this will reset the security system. they are sensitive on this platform car it will happen again. good luck!

SOURCE: 2001 pontiac bonneville SSEi 3.8 l supercharged.

I have a 2000 Bonneville - I had a problem with the car stalling out - then it did not want to start back up. (When it did it would idle up and down and then die) I changed out the mass air flow sensor - now I have not had a problem. Good luck with it.

Failure to restart after or during travel

If it is dying while driving, but not chugging to a stop, and if you happen to notice the dash lights dim before the event I would imagine it is the alternator. If it kind of chugged to a stop and will crank over but not start I would look at the fuel system/fuel pump. However, more information is needed and it could be a few other options. I would like to know if it dies while driving, if you have had the battery tested and the year/make/model of the car.

Car died while driving

Replace the distributor module......my experience tells me it's bad. When it gets hot, the circuit board has a crack that opens up, thus no spark....when it cools off (usually about 10 to 20 mins.) it closes back up and your on your way again. It stuttered and chugged.......because it was flooded after you trying to get it to started for so long, with no spark. Good luck.

Check fuel pump for pressure and output. If it's not that, don't start guessing... have a scanner put on it and get some codes. While some codes can be ambiguous, it will serve to start you in the right direction!

It seems like bad, dirty or loose wire harness connection somewhere in electrical circuit. This is very difficult to find if engine has problem intermittently. One method may resolve is to unplug wire contacts one by one inspect clean and re-plug. Inspect also all fuses if any loose seated, nad fuse case connections and support.
