the only solution to the many problems with volkswagens is to just blow them up.....or make a yard ornament out of them as i had to do with mine at 89,000 mi. when the tranny finally went!! they were great vehicles back in the day...not anymore! from the auto tranny problems/failures to the crayon smell with so so many probs in between, you will get the life sucked out of you and your money sucked out of your wallet and the problems will keep occuring over and over. AND volkswagen will be of absolutely NO HELP! Get rid of it while/if you can!!!!!

either your clutch has failed or the input shaft on the trans failed, either way it will be necessary to remove the trans to determine the failure

On a Camry that year it is quite possible that

- if an auto, your no 1 & 2 shift solenoid has failed, rendering the trans unable to find low gear. Any auto mech can test for this easily (cheaply), however there should then be a trouble code causing the O/D indicator to blink on the dash (if that lamp is OK)

- if a manual, your clutch is worn and has begun to slip. Park on a level, idle the engine, step firmly on the footbrake, place the trans in 3rd gear and let the clutch out slowly. The engine should immediately stall. If it is slow to do so, suspect the clutch.

I'm having the same problem with a P1529 code along with P0500 and P0121 codes as well. Are all these codes associated? Any ideas on what I can do?


P0500 (Vehicle Speed Sensor) May limit the revs of the motor & auto may shift erraticly. P0121 (Throttle Posision Sensor) I would start with this as it can also cause transmition probs. I would just look at these 2

Loud Vibration / Sound Under Acceleration And Starting Engine.


Get the engine mounts checked. A bad mount may allow part of the engine to lie on a body or frame part, allowing engine vibrations to become very loud. Torquing of the engine (under load) can cause the same type problems.

I drive a manual transmission 2000 Outback. I was stopped on a steep hill, and when I started trying to go, my RPMs went up to 5000 and I couldn't go anywhere, so I stopped trying and saw some light grey...


From your description, it does sound like the clutch has again failed.
You can still safely drive the car, provided you avoid heavy acceleration and don't negotiate steep inclines.
However, the clutch slip will only get worse, so get it fixed ASAP.
If the new clutch has failed after only 12 months service, perhaps your clutch pressure plate should also be replaced.
Note that operator poor clutch technique (excessive slippage during starts) will also cause early clutch failure.

not a defective trans make sure the torque converter it locking up and you have good pump pressure to the imput clutch assembly. But first things first check the fluid level with the car running at operating temp. If the trans fluid is low adjust it to the proper level. DO NOT OVERFILL THE TRANS FLUID!!!!!!! you will ruin the front pump.

Bad vibration engine trans under load


seems your problem is within your clutch,defective part,usually a defective release bearing will cause gear shifter and pedal vibration but not as bad as yours,but by pressing on clutch pedal vibration stops,point to clutch!
