How to replace the can shaft sensor

I know it goes somewhere on top of the engine, behind the timing belt but could do with a picture to show where/how it goes exactly. Many thanks :)

Engine stalls on Isuzu I-370 truck after warm up

The Cam sensor usually senses the position of the timing belt or timing chain gear and tells the computer when #1 cylinder is at top dead center. In other words, when #1 cylinder comes up. Crank sensor tells the computer when to fire the spark plugs in the rest of the cylinders. In other words, as the crank shaft goes around it tells the computer when each piston comes up so it can fire it's spark plug

so replace the crankshaft sensor

Have you ever replaced the timing belt?? If not the problem is likely to be a loose worn out timing belt. A floppy belt will play havoc with the sensor signals and trigger a check engine light and a camshaft sensor code.

if you go to autozone to buy the sensor and it does not show around your engine means it might be where the timing belt area of your car. I have a daewoo that needed the same thing done to it too. you can also ask autozone they might know as well.

The timing belt is behind the plastic timing cover which goes around the whole front of the engine. If the timing belt is bad it could cause the sensor to set a code. I would order a book from Oreillys' and it will show you all the procedures plus they are good books to have. They even show you where your sensors are and how to test them. I hope this helps please leave a comment.

I have a chrysler crossfire and i cant find the crankshaft sensor

This sensor is going to be behind your harmonic balancer. The harmonic balancer in case you didnt know is also the big pulley that turns all the belts and other pulleys from your crank shaft.

Which engine? 4 cylinder (2.4 lit) or V6 (2.7 lit)? Two different procedures as well as different belts. The 4 cylinder also has a balance belt. See next image:
42e8a57.jpg
Here's the 2.7 V6 belt:

44efb27.jpg
The replacement procedure is nearly the same at the start (removing, accy drive belts, pullys, support engine & remove front engine mount, remove T.B covers, disconnect Cam Position Sensor & Crank Position Sensor connectors, etc.). When you get to this point on the V6, you also have to remove the front engine mounting bracket from the front of the engine (4 14mm bolts, also a 12mm bolt which bolts the dipstick tube to the side of it) Put crank shaft at TDC (top dead center w/ALL timing marks aligned) remove hydraulic tensioner (2 12 mm bolts), then remove the belt. You'll need to recompress the hydraulic (auto) tensioner in a vise and insert a retaining pin through the pin-holes at the top (through the tensioner piston) to keep it compressed when you reinstall it. Otherwise, you won't be able to install it. Assembly is reverse order of dissassembly. Inspect your pullys while you're in there (check for pully bearing noise, leaking grease, smooth rotation, also the water pump pully, etc.) Replace components as needed. Careful not to damage Crankshaft Position Sensor wire harness.

The 4 Cylinder is quite different. You not only change the timing belt, but also the countershaft (balance) belt, which is behind the crank position sensor blade. IMPORTANT: ALL TIMING MARKS ALIGNED BEFORE REMOVING ANYTHING) There are two (2) counter-shafts (balance shafts). one driven by the timing belt, the other by the crankshaft sprocket behind the timing belt sprocket at the front of the crankshaft.

Would like to see a diagram of where exactly the crank shaft sensor is located in the 2004 hyundai santa fe so that i can change it.

Which engine?? V6 or the 2.4I? The V6 CKP is in the engine block near the flywheel side of the engine (behind and lower right of the exhaust manifold nearest the radiator) A 10mm bolt holds it in place. On the 2.4 4cylinder, the sensor is at the front of the engine behind the Timing Belt cover at the crank shaft. To replace it, you have to remove the timing belt, but you also need to know some technical things to reinstall the belt to be sure you are installing it correctly. Go to http://www.hmaservice.com/ and register. You'll then have access to lots of technical info and manuals, wiring diagrams, etc. about your vehicle.

Wont start

This a possible solution. My 2004 just killed on the way to work 3 weeks ago. It would turn over, but would not start. When my mechanic looked at it, I told him I thought it was the fuel pump, because that is how it seem to be acting. As if the pump was not sending fuel. Turns out it was a sensor behind the timing chain. The Cam Shaft sensor. Once that goes I guess it cuts the fuel. Hyundi's have a maintance schedule where you need to replace the timing chain at 40,000. It was the slack in the belt that caused the sensor to go. I had the two belts the the cam shaft sensor and one other sensor in that same place replaced and now it runs like a top. I hope that helps. And I hope that is not your problem. Parts were pretty cheap. But with labor it cost $900.
