  1. If the inspection reveals obvious concerns that can be readily serviced, correct the concern before continuing with Inspection and Verification.
  1. If the concern remains after the inspection, connect the Rotunda New Generation Star (NGS) Tester, 007-00500 or equivalent, to the data link connector (DLC) located beneath the instrument panel to perform DATA LINK DIAGNOSTICS test. If the NGS responds with NO RESPONSE/NOT EQUIPPED for the driver door module, go to Pinpoint Test A . If the NGS responds with NO RESPONSE/NOT EQUIPPED for lighting control module, go to Pinpoint Test B . If the DATA LINK DIAGNOSTICS test is passed for the driver door module and lighting control module, retrieve continuous DTCs and execute self test diagnostics for the driver door module and lighting control module to retrieve current DTCs.
  1. If self test is passed and no DTCs are retrieved, go to Symptom Chart to continue diagnosis.
  1. If DTCs are retrieved for the driver door module, go to the Driver Door Module (DDM) Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Index to continue diagnosis. If DTCs are retrieved for the lighting control module, go to the Lighting Control Module (LCM) Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Index to continue diagnostics.
  1. If the driver door module cannot be accessed by the NGS tester, go to Pinpoint Test A . If the lighting control module cannot be accessed by the NGS, go to Pinpoint Test B .
Rotunda Service Bay Diagnostic System (SBDS®) 001-00001 may also be used to diagnose this system.
You'll need more then wiring diagrams ! A good scan tool for starters .

How do I fix break lights to come on

Hi Twinkles

It always helps to draw a simple circuit diagram on paper with a pen.

Draw a Battery, Fuse , Switch and Lamp then ground wire back to battery. The switch can be connected to the ground side or the 12v side depending upon the vehicle type.

If you can\'t draw or understand your hand written circuit then you aren\'t going to understand the vehicle wiring. So, maybe you need to take it to a professional auto electrician or a friend that understands the basic circuit.

You can use (or make) a 12 volt test light or buzzer to test the brake light circuit. A needle attached to one end of your tester can help to dig through the insulation along the wire. From the fuse associated with that circuit to the switch attached to break pedal under the dash to the light itself behind the reflector or in the boot (trunk) of vehicle.

Good luck

Trevor

The fuse seems to have gone on my cigar lighter out put (I used a pump on it ) but I cant find a diagram to identify the fuse, The car is a 180 Kompressor 2004

Find the fuse block. If the circuit is not identified & you do not own a circuit tester,Pull each fuse until you find the broken fuse.Replace fuse with same ampre rating & type.Hint:probably a 20 amp fuse

Check the coil packs and EGR:
Exhaust Gas Recirculation System Operation Application of the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) gases is regulated by the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). It is based on engine coolant temperature, engine speed, vehicle speed, throttle angle and Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP). The operation of the EGR system is monitored by the PCM, which allows gases to flow at a calculated rate and compares it against MAP sensor and oxygen sensor activity. The PCM anticipates an increase in MAP voltage and an increase in O2 sensor voltage.
Electrically operated vacuum control solenoids used to control the flow of vacuum to the EGR valve, rely on pulse-width duty cycle commands from the PCM to control its operation. Using input values and the operating conditions previously mentioned the PCM completes the electrical circuit for the solenoid to allow vacuum operation of the EGR.
In addition to solenoids controlling vacuum flow, the incorporation of a back pressure transducer regulates vacuum signals independently of electrical signals. When back pressure in the exhaust system is low, the transducer pintle is open and manifold vacuum is allowed to bleed off. As back pressure increases the amount of vacuum allowed to bleed off is reduced resulting in more vacuum being applied to the valve. This allows air pressure to open the valve.
The following symptoms can be caused by a faulty EGR valve due to loose connection, bad grounds, high resistance in the circuit, or opens in the circuit.
Related Symptoms
  • Stalling on deceleration
  • Stall at idle
  • Surging off idle
  • Unstable idle
  • Running rough off idle
  • Hesitation
  • Stumble
  • Chuggle
  • Low idle
  • Poor fuel economy
  • Spark knock
  • Stalling on acceleration

Diagnosis and Testing Secondary Spark Test These spark tester looks just like a spark plug, attach the clip to ground and crank the engine to check for spark 91052p10.jpg
This spark tester has an adjustable air-gap for measuring spark strength and testing different voltage ignition systems 91052p11.jpg
Attach the clip to ground and crank the engine to check for spark 91052p12.jpg
This spark tester is the easiest to use just place it on a plug wire and the spark voltage is detected and the bulb on the top will flash with each pulse 91052p10.jpg
The best way to perform this procedure is to use a spark tester (available at most automotive parts stores). Three types of spark testers are commonly available. The Neon Bulb type is connected to the spark plug wire and flashes with each ignition pulse. The Air Gap type must be adjusted to the individual spark plug gap specified for the engine. The last type of spark plug tester looks like a spark plug with a grounding clip on the side, but there is no side electrode for the spark to jump to. The last two types of testers allows the user to not only detect the presence of spark, but also the intensity (orange/yellow is weak, blue is strong).
  1. Disconnect a spark plug wire at the spark plug end.
  2. Connect the plug wire to the spark tester and ground the tester to an appropriate location on the engine.
  3. Crank the engine and check for spark at the tester.
  4. If spark exists at the tester, the ignition system is functioning properly.
  5. If spark does not exist at the spark plug wire, perform diagnosis of the ignition system using individual component diagnosis procedures.

Power windows stopped working

If ALL the windows quit working, then it's either a bad circuit breaker or a short circuit. There are two fuse/relay/breaker panels: under the hood and under the back seat cushion. The power window circuit breaker is under the back seat cushion, near the battery. Remove the back seat completely, then remove the fuse panel top and inner cover. The fuse diagram is inside the top cover. Circuit breaker # 57 is the one. Pull it out. Use your voltmeter/multi-tester to check for continuity through the breaker. If there's no continuity, the breaker is bad and needs to be replaced. If it's good, then you have a dead short somewhere that causes the self-resetting breaker to uncouple when you attempt to operate a window. If so, the short will need to be traced down and repaired. Good luck.

1997 Dodge Ram 3500 windshield wipers wont stop

If your voltage regulater in the charging system (distributor, altinater, battery, PCM) was replaced then the entire PCM where the volt. regulator nis held should have been replaced, so hopefully it was.
To check the charging system make sure when the truck is running the battery reads 13.5 to 14.5 volts (may go as high as 16) and when not running the battery should be at 12 volts. Any high and low voltages meen that the regulater or PCM are still bad and could be your problem.
to check the wiper circuit, pull its fuse and place a continuity tester over the fuse positions terminals, should have continuity, if not you have a wiring issue and the circuit needs tested at different sections until the break is found. Also the tester to check the wipers ground, place one test lead on a known/good grounding spot and the other on your wiper ground if there is no continuity than you are not grounded and you have to find the short.
You can get a Haynes repair manual that has all circuit diagrams in it, if your able to read circuit diagrams, hope this helps.
