Check drive belt . If it drives the power steering as well then it may be loose and not driving the water pump and alternator (battery light and temperature rise)/ Loose belt on power steering pump = squeal noise

I assume it's a petrol engine and the spark plugs will NOT be under the air box.It will probably have a coil pack which sits on the spark at the top...

It gets pretty hot in there, and although hardly any manufacturers specify replacement intervals for oxygen sensors, they play a critical role in providing the ECM with acurate data for best running performance/economy. Change it, as the savings in NOT changing it will be soon eroded by increased fuel usage.
