Question about Dodge D150

1 Answer

87 dodge d150 won't start/will die when very rainy or at car wash

It's as though if the car is exposed to lots of rain or water, something is getting wet in the engine and shorting out. The engine will turn over fine, but it's like there is no spark or gas flowing. Any ideas?

Damp is getting into your electrics. Spray all wires and disributor with WD40 after wet days or nights before trying to start it. That should cure it

SOURCE: 1990 DODGE D150 WON'T START WHEN HOT

There is a temp. sensor on the exhaust manifold that I just switched out on car that done the same thing it would start when cold but once it was hot and you killed the car it would not start back. When this goes bad its throwing the wrong signal to the computer that it is too hot and allowing it not to crank. This sensor was on the left side of the engine if your facing the car from the front. Also It can be tested with a multimeter to see if it is bad.

Something is getting wet. Check the codes with a code scanner to see if you can isolate the problamatic area. The code/s may point you to what circuit is causing your trouble

Everytime it rains real hard. car won't start, after 2 days it then starts.. Everything works good..........Then a month later when it rains again, the car won't start for another 2...

Obviously water is the cause. Make sure all hood seals and underbody splash shields are in place, check firewall main connector for security. After it rains (without driving it in rain) check floor mats inside for water. A possible windshield or dash leak is allowing water into electrical area near instrument cluster (windshield may need resealed). Lift hood and look for water on any electrical connections disconnect dry, and seal with tune up grease from parts store.
Good luck

1989 dodge d150. truck will run fine for about 15 minutes then dies. I changed the fuel filter and it still dies. both injectors seem to be pumping fuel. so any ideas.

If you are sure right after the engine dies you have fuel I would think it was the coil going bad see if yiou have spark right after it dies. If you have spark squirt gas into the throuttle body and see if it starts

Hi, I happen to own a van too with the same problem except that I know what my problem is. I can tell you that you have a leak somewhere where the wiring to your lights is getting exposed and wet and the sooner you find the leak, the better. If you let it go too long, something is eventually going to short out and leave you with bigger problems and hopefully it won't be the ECM. So I suggest you turn the garden hose on and give your car a good wetting and follow the wiring from the headlights, all the way back to the harness/firewall. Im sure youll find exposed wires that are wet. Good luck

Drivers floor gets wet when it rains

test it with a garden hose. water the front of the truck at the bottom of the windsheild first and see inside if the water comes in. do the same with the roof etc. until you find where the water comes in and solve the problem with adequate sealer

it sounds like the computer is getting wet; on a clear dry day, wash the car and check for any leaks up around the windshield before drying it off especially if the water coming in on the passenger side behind the glove box because that is where your computer is located
