Diagram of cooling system for endura-e 1.3L

Need a diagram showing how the elements in the water system are connected: Radiator, Water pump/engine, heating, thermostat, expansion tank. My car is a Ford KA 1998 with endura-e 1.3 engine. Thank you very much.

SOURCE: OVER HEATING

In the fan circuit...You have a temp switch screwed on the radiator, a fuze and a relay in the fuze box plus a fan.  Swap the relay with another relay, replace the fuze.  The other fan should come on when the a/c is turned on.  If you fix the fans and it still overheats, you may have a BLOWN HEAD GASKET.  ALSO ARE YOU BLEEDING THE AIR FROM THE SYSTEM?  DO YOU SMELL EXHAUST IN THE COOLANT?

Probably not water pump. Engine is notourious for vapour lock.
Cooling system must be blead of air before thermostat will work. Cool bottom rad hose is a dead give away. If you are still watching this forum reply , and I will walk you through the only way I know how to make it work properly. It's actually easy if you do it my way. I have worked on lots of cars , and this engine was the hardest to bleed out. Did one Yesterday , and works perfect.

Hello. Here a non-photo diagram. Hope this helps!!!

The thermostat is located on the side of the water pump, the water pump is located just above the a/c compressor, the thermostat is fed coolant from the radiators lower radiator hose.
Thermostat :
1. drain coolant and tighten drain plug ( easier method : remove radiator cap, get big drain pan, place drain pan under lower radiator hose to radiator connection, remove clamp, slowly remove hose, allow coolant to drain into pan, now is a good time to remove radiator hose and clamp from thermostat housing )
2. remove thermostat cover / cap ( easiest to get at this when front of car is supported by jack stands and right hand side lower cover is removed ).
3. thermostat cap is held on by 3 bolts / remove thermostat.

You will notice that the thermostat's air bleed hole is pointing up and lines up with notch in water pump housing,,

ATTENTION :failure to install new thermostat in the correct location will cause engine to overheat.

1. install new thermostat to water pump, make sure air bleed hole lines up with notch, install and tighten bolts, install a new lower radiator hose, fill cooling system.

lower radiator hose #17854-65G20
hose clamp #09401-36403
upper radiator hose # 17852-65G20

Instructions
  1. 4.0L Explorer Engines
    • 1Place a drain pan underneath the radiator. When the engine is cool, drain the cooling system from the radiator into the pan.
    • 2Remove the fan shroud, the cooling fan, the accessory drive belt and the water pump pulley with the bolts.
    • 3Disconnect the coolant bypass hose and the lower radiator hose.
    • 4Loosen and remove the bolts attaching the water pump and remove the pump from the engine.
    • 5Clean all the mounting surfaces to the water pump.
    • 6Install the new pump, tightening the bolts to 89 inch pounds (20 to 28 Nm).
    • 7Reattach and install all components in reverse order from removal. Tighten the water pump pulley bolts to 18 foot pounds (25 Nm).
    • 8Refill the cooling system. Start the car and check for leaks when the engine reaches normal operating temperature.
    5.0L Explorer Engines
    • 9Disconnect the negative battery cable and place a drain pan underneath the radiator. When the engine is cool, drain the cooling system from the radiator into the pan.
    • 10Remove the fan shroud, the cooling fan, the accessory drive belt and the water pump pulley with the bolts.
    • 11Take out the accessory drive belt. Disconnect and remove the heater hose and the bypass hose from the pump.
    • 12Remove the brackets to the engine control sensor wiring. Move the harness out of the way.
    • 13Loosen and remove the bolts to the water pump pulley and the water pump and remove the pulley.
    • 14Pull the water pump out and away from the front cover. Once the water pump is out of the way, disconnect the lower radiator hose. Then, take the water pump out of the engine.
    • 15Clean the front cover to the water pump and all the mounting surfaces. Put some adhesive gasket sealer on both sides of a brand new gasket and put it on the pump.
    • 16Reattach the lower radiator hose to the pump and reattach the pump, tightening the bolts to 15 to 21 foot pounds (20 to 28 Nm).
    • 17Reattach and reinstall all components in reverse order to their removal.
      Reattach the negative battery cable and refill the cooling system. Start the car and check for leaks when the engine reaches normal operating temperature.

try the scrapyard and look at one in their ,or ask a local owner that is just parking up in a supermarket and look at theirs .lots of different ways to overcome this problem but if the pipe has beeen disconnected its because the heater matrix is no doubt leaking

To removal...

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Open the radiator valve and drain the cooling system.
  3. Remove the cooling fan and shroud as an assembly.
  4. Remove the accessory drive belt.
  5. Remove the water pump pulley from the hub.
  6. Disconnect the hoses from the water pump.

Keep in mind that Grand Cherokee have two sizes engines 4.0 and 5.2L (this last engine is the mine)...

Hi, there are 2 common locations for a coolant leak on a vortec engine. The water pump, and the intake gasket. A coolant pressure test may show the leak better. There is a weep hole , or a vent hole, at the bottom of the water pump. This should be checked, as well as the edgesnof the intake, and the front and rear of the intake. Chances are you will find the problem in these areas. Good luck...Coop

Installing water pump in 97 cavalier 2.2


Hi. Here's the proceudere on how to replace the water pump of your 97 Chevy Cavalier.

Drain the cooling system. Place a large oil drain container under the drain fitting located on the bottom of the radiator. Turn the drain fitting counterclockwise until fluid is draining from the radiator. Use a pair of pliers to turn the drain fitting if you cannot turn it by hand. Turn the fitting clockwise to tighten it after all of the fluid has drained from the radiator.

Remove the cooling fan. Disconnect the electrical connection from the fan motor. Remove the bolts holding the fan assembly to the radiator support with a ratchet wrench. Pull the fan assembly up from the engine compartment and remove it.

Remove the serpentine belt. Place a wrench over the belt tensioner and rotate the tensioner to release the tension on the belt. Pull the belt off the pulleys and remove it from the vehicle.

Remove the water pump pulley. Place a screwdriver behind the pulley to lock it in place while removing the pulley mounting bolts with a ratchet wrench.

Disconnect the coolant hoses running to the water pump.

Remove the water pump mounting bolts with a ratchet wrench or wrench and remove the water pump from the vehicle.

Clean the mating surfaces of the engine block and new water pump with a towel saturated with lacquer thinner.

Apply a thin layer of RTV sealer to both sides of the new water pump gasket and place the gasket on the new water pump.

Place the water pump against the engine block and finger tighten the water pump mounting bolts to hold the pump in place. Tighten the bolts with a torque wrench to 18 foot-pounds.

Place the pulley on the water pump and install the water pump pulley mounting bolts with a ratchet wrench.

Attach any hoses previously disconnected from the water pump.

Install the serpentine belt. Route the belt over the pulleys according to the routing diagram in the engine compartment. Place a wrench over the belt tensioner and rotate the tensioner to tighten the tension on the belt.

Install the cooling fan. Gently lower the cooling fan in position and install the mounting bolts attaching the fan assembly to the radiator support with a ratchet wrench. Attach the electrical connection to the fan motor.

Refill the cooling system to the appropriate level, start the vehicle and check for leaks around the water pump.

5.3L Grand Prix Engine
  1. Place a drain pan underneath the radiator. When the engine is cool, drain the cooling system from the radiator into the pan.
  2. Remove the battery from the engine along with its tray.
  3. Take the drive belt out of the engine.
  4. Loosen and remove the three bolts to the water pump and remove the pump, throwing away the gasket.
  5. Clean the gasket mating surfaces and install the new water pump with a new gasket, tightening the bolts to 89 inch pounds (10 Nm).
  6. Reinstall the drive belt and the battery with the battery tray.
  7. Refill the engine's cooling system with coolant. Start the car and check for leaks when the engine reaches normal operating temperature.
3.5L Grand Prix Engine
  1. Partially drain the coolant from the cooling system.
  2. Disconnect the surge tank outlet hose and remove the drive belt.
  3. Remove the idler pulley and the water pump pulley, making sure to note the locations of the bolts as you remove them as they are various lengths.
  4. Loosen and remove the bolts to the water pump, also taking note at their locations, and remove the pump.
  5. Install the new water pump with a new gasket, tightening the bolts to 124 inch pounds (14 Nm).
  6. Reattach the water pump pulley, tightening the bolts to 106 inch pounds (12 Nm).
  7. Reinstall the idler pulley, tightening the bolts to 37 foot pounds (50 Nm) and install the surge tank hose and drive belt.
  8. Refill the engine's cooling system with coolant.
  9. Start the car and check for leaks when the engine reaches normal operating temperature.
3.4L and 3.1L Grand Prix Engines

  1. Place a drain pan underneath the radiator. When the engine is cool, drain the cooling system from the radiator into the pan.
  2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  3. Remove the accessory drive belt guard and the accessory drive belt.
  4. Loosen and remove the water pump pulley bolts and remove the water pump pulley.
  5. Remove the water pump bolts and remove the water pump.
  6. Install the new water pump along with a new gasket, tightening the bolts to 89 inch pounds (10 Nm).
  7. Reinstall the water pump pulley and tighten the bolts to 18 foot pounds (25 Nm).
  8. Reattach the accessory drive belt with the drive belt guard.
  9. Refill the engine's cooling system with coolant.
  10. Start the car and check for leaks when the engine reaches normal operating temperature.

cant help you with the diagrahm but can help with the pump to know if its the pump or not follow the bottom radiator hose from the radiator to the other end where this connects is usually the water pump. hope this helps.

My 2001 lincoin ls gauge goes up to the h and then come back down


you probably have air trapped in the system. Have dealer or radiator shop bleed system.

I assume your cooling fan is working.

what engine v6 or v8?

DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION Engine Cooling The cooling system components include the:
  • block heater (optional)
  • cylinder head temperature sensor
  • fan blade, fan motor and fan shroud assembly
  • radiator
  • pressure relief cap
  • degas bottle
  • radiator draincock
  • water pump
  • oil cooler (optional)
  • water thermostat
The water thermostat:
  • controls the engine coolant temperature.
  • allows quicker engine warm-up.
The degas bottle:
  • provides a location for system fill.
  • contains coolant expansion and system pressurization.
  • provides air separation during operation.
  • replenishes the engine coolant to the system.
The fan blade draws air through the radiator to help cool the engine coolant.
The fan motor:
  • operates only when the engine is running.
  • will not operate when the engine is off.
The engine coolant flows:
  • from the lower radiator hose to the water pump.
  • from the water pump to the engine block and the cylinder heads.
A closed water thermostat returns the engine coolant to the water pump. An open water thermostat allows the engine coolant to flow to the radiator.
Unsatisfactory coolant materials:
  • Alcohol-type antifreeze does not provide adequate water pump lubrication.
    • has lower boiling point
    • reduced antifreeze protection
  • Alkaline brine solutions will cause serious engine cooling system damage.
The cylinder head temperature sensor provides a signal to the temperature gauge.
  • will invoke failsafe cooling.
The optional block heater:
  • electrical heating element is installed in the block cooling jacket.
    • uses a standard 110V (220V in Europe) electrical supply
  • keeps the engine coolant warm during cold weather.
The auxiliary water pump (3.9L only):
  • provides heater coolant flow boost.
  • has a secondary function of providing engine-off cooling.
