My 91 Nissan Maxima when idling in park or nuetral revs up and down.

Then when it is in gear it revs up high like I am pushing on the gas. I have changed the throttle position sensor and that did not fix the problem. Where should I check next? The car is an automatic if that helps at all.

No IAC on this car, or nobody actually sells it. Somebody suggested that before and I have been searching for that and they don't even sell it at the dealer.

IAC sensor could be bad.

Testimonial: "I have looked for the IAC even with the dealer parts and can not find it anywhere. I don't think my car has it or something."

SOURCE: 1995 Nissan Maxima idle problems

Let's try the cheapest fix first. Change the fuel filter out. You'll probably see a brown looking goop in the gas, This is an "ETHANOL" problem. Read up on it. These are all related to so many idle and acceleration problems. Buy a can of SEAFOAM at the parts house. Fill up tank with Premium and add SEAFOAM. Then change filter out before 500 more miles. This should clean out the water and the goop and the carbon build up caused by the ETHANOL. Add a can of SEAFOAM every 3000 mile after that to a full tank of gas. It will keep your emissions, engine, and fuel lines clean. And will keep your car from line freeze up. Good luck.

Check for any air leaks between the mass airflow meter and the engine like the rubber being split on the air intake boots etc.. I once had a toyota that would do the same thing and the fix for that was to flush the coolant passages in the throttle body, worth a try. Also you said you replaced the TPS. If the TPS has slotted holes you must set the minimum TPS volts or that can also cause idling issues. Clean the throttle body as well.

2005 dodge neon - revs high in park nuetral and tough to push break pedal down. mechanic doesn't know what it is. Anyone have this problem resolved before? Thanks

sounds to me like you have a vacuum leak. When you lose vacuum the brake booster doesn't operate right. You need to go too a different mechanic. Could be the idle selonoid staying open or even a bad brake booster or vacuum hose came off.

My 1994 nissan maxima has no problems.but all of a sudden i parked it and when i tried to put it in gear,it wont move.it stays in park.and it wont move

Check your linkage under the car on drivers side. Right next to Transmisson the linkage that goes to your shifter should connect to the linkage coming out of the transmisson. If not, you have a broken linkage.

Why would the rpm for my 1997 Nissan Maxima go down to 550 when the car is in the idle position? The RPM's of my car go down to 550 when the car is at a stop light.

I don't really know where they should be in idle on your car, but if you don't apply your gas pedal, the RPM's should be low. My 18 wheelers RPM's are down to 500 in idle position and go up to 2300 when I step on my "diesel" pedal. If in neutral or park and you step on the gas...do your RPM's go up? If yes, all should be okay.

you know what that sounds like it may be.... believe it or not check your trans fluid (car running WARM and in park ) make sure that the fluid is red almost pink like not dark red. Also why not try and change out the spark plugs and air cleaner!
