SOURCE: It will not shift out
That solenoid is called a shift lock solenoid. It operates when you depress the brake pedal when you want to shift out of park. If it does not engage replace it

This is what dealers do, they fix the one problem and knowingly leave the other for another profit. Had they fixed this at the time of the repair, they would have had to charge you less, for being there already. This is how a dealer makes their big profits. I would take my car to a dealer like you selected, then take that knowledge to my local auto repair shop, then see how much he would charge, I will bet my money, your local shop will charge you 2/3rds less.

forenza does not have a detachable knob on the shifter.
you need to change the whole rod, which is very small and gets connected at the joint below the car..............
