How do I check the fuel pressure on my 98 Nissan Quest minivan

You actually need specialised equipment to do it. However, you can disconnect the fuel line where it enters the engine bay and get somebody to turn the ignition on for you. Fuel should literally spray out of the pipe .. not dribble or spurt erratically - it should come out in a solid jet.

Could be. Does it sound kind of harsh. Should be a soft whirl sound. Could be the security system. Does the security light stay on? Do you hear the pump running after it starts? You can rent fuel pressure testers from auto parts stores.

Recently replaced fuel pump due to nissan truck not running. When it starts it sputters and dies when you give it gas.

Sounds like a vacuum leak or crossed vac lines, MAF or MAP sensor issue. Check fuel PSI & fuel volume.

Died coming to a stop to turn, motor would turn over but but not crank up.

look at the fuses, you have a fuse that runs the fuel pump. if not there is a good possibilty the fuel pump went out. a mechanic can run a fuel test for you to check the PSI and they can tell you for sure.

Check the fuel pressure, it is likely the pump is defective. The pump is located inside the fuel tank. Also try spraying starting fluid into the engine to see if it starts, this may bring the p[ump to life from the increased system voltage to the pump. If that doesn't work and you have a no start still you have other problems.

What are the signs and symptoms of a fuel pump needing replaced. Other than the obvious that the car will not start 2000 Nissan frontier V6, 3.3L 4x4 crew cab

You don't hear it running when your turn the key on just before the crank position.

You have replaced the fuel filter and it was pretty much stopped up. (destroyed pump trying to pump through stopped up filter.)

Because it was going bad you couldn't drive fast because it wasn't pumping enough fuel.

Disconnect fuel line and see if fuel comes out when you turn the key on.

Fuel pump not pumping fuel

See if you have pressure at the fuel rail by cracking a fuel line open when cranking. If it is under pressure, it should spray. If it only drips, the pump may not be working. You can always pull the tank down some and check the voltage at the pump connections. Voltage at the pump and no pressure at the line usually mean a failed pump that you will need to replace.

There should be a Nissan techical service bulletin out that covers some models of bad fuel pumps. Call your dealer with a VIN number to check the bulletins that may have been serviced on your specific vehicle.
