Say what lights exactly , the cab of cars can have 20 freakn lights.
stop guessing, please, and huge costs an labor, !!

you car has what is called dark current.
you saw the light fai,l in the dark, and ignored that.
that IS The problem , it flattened the battery , that is NORMAL.
Normal for and illegal DRAIN.

ok, I see lamps on, key off. HL switch off. Head Lights (HL)
so , i pull fuses 1 by one, and bingo X fuse kills the lamp(s).
i trace that fuse path only ,using my ammeter.

here is a phantom drain page.
shows 3 ways to trace it, best is an ammeter.

http://www.fixkick.com/drain/drain.html

think of a car electrics as a tree.
and one branch as a problem?. the fuse protects each branch
from catching fire. and allows you to measure the current on each branch very easy.;
we use the ammeter to find which twig is shorted (switch closed in error or , a real short, of random happenstance_)
is this better/
good luck to you and do ask any questions. (how to, on all)

Testimonial: "all the lights on my dash, battery, car doors, trunk, the oil, my abs breaks, my emergency break.. all the lights flicked on and then off. My gas gage and oil gage even flicked. I might have drained my battery, so I pulled it and hooked it up to be recharged, put it back in my car, car started and then died. I will be checking all fuses this weekend."

Start with checking the alternator voltage with a multimeter. With the car off check the voltage in the battery which should be holding 12v charged less if flat of course then start the car and test the battery again. If the alternator is good you should be getting a reading of 14 to 14.5 v if it's the alternator it'll A) not put any charge into the battery or B) be a very low voltage being anything under 13.5 v

Auto Zone does not test the alternator under full load so the test result could be borderline.
start the car and turn everything on. If the voltage drops lower than 14.2
replace the alternator.
also the battery could be being drained overnight. to check use a test light by removing a battery terminal and connecting light between battery and cable with car off.
if it lights start be removing fuses.
when the light goes off the problem is with this circuit.
lastly if the light stays on take the wires off the alternator.
if the light goes out replace alternator.

Is there an electrical issue with my 1990 Pontiac Sunbird?

HI Dillon

Burnt wires mean bad short in electrical harness somewhere some how takes just one wire to overheat and burn and melt others including. If there is a wire grounding out or keep voltage being used up by some electrical connection. you can charge up you battery.... remove positive cable off battery.. and connect a test light one on battery positive.. and one on positive cable.. now look if the lite comes on your test light if it does... make sure you have everything shut off... even your doors and if your hood has a light bulb remove it. Do a one by one removal of all your fusses and relays you can find ....if the interior light comes on remove it and watch your test light if the light goes off ,,,as you pull off each fuse . if you find the test light dose go out on a fuse or more you have a problem,,,, whatever is connected to that fuse,,,,, look at the fuse pannel and cover it will tell you what that fuse doe,,,,s and will lead you to what is draining your battery. So the main thing to make sure nothing is on,,,, when you have the test light bridged,,, between you positive cable and positive battery post. Just incase If you dont have any light come on your test lite you will need more help.

Daughter called me ..car wont start. checked battery at Autozone...it is good. someone stopped to help them and bang on startere and it starts up. Bad starter. Starter replaced. Next day daughter...

it sounds like you have blown fuse to the Alternator.. I don't know what car you are talking about but they charging systems vary.. But if alternator isn't getting all the power it needs it won't charge. this should be checked.

good luck

Have a 92 astro van ext. alternator and battery are good but as im driving the battery dies and is not charging .. the charging light on the dash stays on.....any ideas as to what it could be?

If the battery symbol stays on on your dash, it is the alternator. I had a 91 Astrovan and the light was blinking and then finally stayed on. Talked to a mechanic at Pepboys and he said that was a bad diode in the alternator. Also, make sure that your battery cable is good and clean.

My car does not stay running for more than two minutes after battery charges for an entire day.Can this be electrical?

if it sputters and dies, you may have a fuel supply issue. if the battery dies every time, you have an alternator problem. as soon as it turns over, the car's electrical should run off of the alternator. you could disconnect the battery and it'll still run. if it doesn't, replace the alternator. but make sure the battery is fully charged before you do, otherwise you'll ruin the new alternator (alternator death). it would probably be best to replace the battery, too.
