1: the Alternator fan belt broke off,or is loose or shredded,
2: the Alternator is bad.
3: the corroded, battery lug deal, (service skipped)\
just 3, there are more.

check all fuses in the cab box and in the engine bay fuse box.

Thanks :) it's a 98. I took out the old alternator and the belt looked fine. Got another (not new) alternator and put it in. The battery is about 2 years old and my connectors to that are new as I replaced thoes too. I'll be checking fuses next. I will also check out the link you attached :) thank you!

the alternator lamp (and charging) do drop out, at illegal low idle RPM. 100% normal, so im confused, are you ignoring the stalls, and low rpms, the normal rpm is about 800 most cars, on a hot engine, cold way more 1500 on avg. I only have questions?, what light, fickered, not stated. they all have names and meanings, if the charge lamp c omes on at 60mph, the battery dies in about 10 hrs. daylight and 1/2 that in dark...... see? when the charge lamp comes on , the EFI is runnig off the battery, (doomed) , the stalling is caused by many things , not just a dead battery. I have a dash voltmeter (can be added to a cigarette lighter. ) and you can see if the battery dies, or the alternator dies, or its just a simple engine stall, (for example a sticking open EGR main valve)

all lights went out. the cluster lamps all come ON at a stall. most come one, CEL, CHarge and OIL. all come own, at engine stall, if not you lost main 12vdc power. The 12v power must be reliable to EFI and spark or the engine will stall. every time. use voltmeter at the cig lighter port. to monitor power there.

I had that same problem a while ago. I changed the coil and the ignition and I have had no problems since. Give that a try and see if it works. I have a 1997 honda crv myself and it seemed to work.

SOURCE: Charging problem.. Wont charge battery

The instructions for installing a new alternator usually read to fully charge the battery (12.3 - 12.8 volt range). Otherwise, the alternator will be damaged when it initializes. I have seen some extreme damage result from installing a new alternator with a low-charge battery. The torque required to turn an alternator when damaged in this scenario is unbelieveable!

The FuseLink is blown. It is a 100 AMP in-line fuse on the red wire from the alternator.

2003 HONDA ELEMENT DIES WHILE DRIVING

Sounds like a bad connection somewhere. Maybe the thieves or the repair shop damaged/loosened something. I would start the car and start wiggling/moving wires and connections to try to narrow down where the problem is. Start at the alternator connections, both at the alternator and where the thick wire connects, probably at the power distribution box but it may go straight to the battery; don't recall on that car.

1992 prelude si - battery/alternator prob?

if you can charge the battery and drive it for a while then sounds like the altenator has failed and is not re-charging the battery, good way to test is to charge the battery, start the car and turn the light on, if everything is dimm or the motor dies there is little to no charge voltage, and will require altenator work

Your alternator is dead/dying. Nissan puts both of those lights on to tell you that the alternator isn't charging your battery.

I work for honda and have seen this often. Mostly on the newer vehicles (2008 and newer). we have always fixed this by replacing the insterment cluster. expensive yes but always fixed it. it in itself is a seperate computer so when it is replaced it will need to be initalized through the HDS

98 accord wont start. lights flicker in dash and engine wont turn over

Have the battery checked.  You may have heard a fast clicking sound when the lights were flickering, if so it's coming from the starter solenoid.  If the battery is bad, have the voltage regulator and alternator checked also.  A bad voltage regulator or alternator will kill the new battery.

Try starting with jumper cables, if that works, you can pull the battery out, take it to a auto parts store that will test it for free (most parts stores will do this).  If it's bad, you can put a new battery in and then drive straight to somewhere to have the charging system tested.
