Turn signals work. Why don't brake lights?

Brake light switch possibly . What make , model an year vehicle do you have ? If your in USA you can go to http://www.bbbind.com/free_tsb.html free wiring diagrams . Then find the brake light switch up under the dash , on top of brake pedal . arm an test for B+ voltage going into the switch an coming out of the switch with pedal pushed . Turn signals are separate from brake lights ! Check youtube for basic electrical testing an trouble shooting videos . You have to watch out on some vehicles because the brake switch is an input to BCM - body control module an then it turns on the brake lights .

What would cause the dash lights to come on when brake pedal is pushed down on a 1998 Saturn 4-door sedan?

A short somewhere or power back feeding through the circuit ! Do you know how to do electrical trouble shooting ? Find wiring diagrams for those circuits an see if they have anything in common , power supply , ground . test each circuit . This may involve taking your dash apart . Check the dash wiring harness for areas rubbed through an contacting other wires . You can find wiring diagrams at http://bbbind.com/free_tsb.html for free . Go to you tube an check out a few videos on basic automotive electrical trouble shooting , how to read wiring diagrams ,if your not familiar with them .

How do I get it out of park its stuck

You may have to rock the car if it is on a hill. If it is not then there is a switch on the brake pedal that unlocks the gear shifter when the brake is pressed. If the switch broke or came loose then it wont let the shift lever move.

Can't shift out of park, no brake lights

This is a problem with the brake sensor lockout. Most likely it is out of place or broken and shorting. It is on the brake pedal lever.

Brake pedal has alot of back pressure and car moves in gear.Have to press real hard to stop. How to check abs pump if has one where or brake booster or master cylinder?Don't know how to trouble shoot or...

The air seeping is a dead giveaway. Your power brakes are now manual brakes, but stiffer. The diaphram in the brake booster has torn and the hissing noise is the engine vacuum escaping (you hear it louder when you depress the pedal right?). Replace the booster and you will be fine. The brake lights probably don't work because you can't push the pedal down far enought to release the switch. Please rate. Thanks.

Excursion limited edition. Brake lights stay on.

Check that the pedal height isn't sagging due to low brake fluid level. Also check for adjustment of the brake light switch or the BPP (Brake Pedal Position) switch.

Brake Pedal Position (BPP) Switch Removal & Installation To Remove:
  1. Disconnect battery negative cable.
  2. Disconnect brake pedal position (BPP) switch electrical connector.
  3. Remove self locking pin.
  4. Remove switch from brake master cylinder push rod.
  5. Remove push rod spacer.
  6. Remove push rod bushing.
To Install:
  1. Install push rod bushing.
  2. Install push rod spacer.
  3. Install switch to brake master cylinder push rod.
  4. Install self locking pin.
  5. Connect electrical connector.
  6. Connect battery negative cable.

Brake lights won't turn off. how do I replace the brake light switch

look at your brake pedal above it is a sensor with a small button on the end that the pedal arm comes in contact with you may have to take your lower dash cover off which is held up with two screws with a 7mm head on them.once you can see the sensor disconnect the electrical connector by pushing the release tab and pulling.then grab the sensor and twista quarter turn counterclockwise.then put the new sensor in its place push in untill the button is totally depressed then turn clockwise a quarter turn to lock it in place then pop the electrical connector in the sensor..

Brake light stays on

the switch for your brake lights is located near your brake pedal,it is usually a spring loaded switch that comes out when the pedal is pushed & the pedal pushes it back in when it is released, this switch may have come loose & is active all the time, you need to make sure that it is pushed hard up against the brake pedal & tighten the adjusting screws to lock it in position, check that your stop lights come on when the brake pedal is pushed in....hope this helps....cheers
